‘The Odyssey’ Star Matt Damon Confirms He’s Looking to Revive the Bourne Franchise: “Always Looking”
Matt Damon has left the door open for another return to the Jason Bourne franchise, saying he is still interested in revisiting the role and is even willing to hear new ideas for where the story could go.
Damon, who first played the amnesiac CIA assassin in 2002’s The Bourne Identity, confirmed that there are ongoing discussions behind the scenes about continuing the series. He explained that the creative team has not closed the book on the character and continues to explore possible directions for a future installment.
He said, “We’re always looking to try to get another one of those because we loved it, everyone who worked on them. So there’s always some attempt going on to write, to come up with a new story. So if you have anything, let us know.”
The Jason Bourne franchise has been one of the most successful modern action series in Hollywood. It began with The Bourne Identity, followed by The Bourne Supremacy in 2004 and The Bourne Ultimatum in 2007. Damon stepped away from the role in 2012 when the series shifted direction with The Bourne Legacy, which focused on a different character played by Jeremy Renner. He later returned for Jason Bourne in 2016.
Over the years, the franchise has earned both strong box office returns and critical praise for its grounded style of action and espionage storytelling. Collectively, the films have grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide, making it one of Universal Pictures’ most valuable action properties.

The interview comes at a time when Universal is actively expanding its major franchises. NBCUniversal recently secured long-term rights to Robert Ludlum’s Bourne universe, ensuring that future films and potential spin-offs remain in development under producer Frank Marshall, who has been involved since the beginning of the series.
Damon’s comments suggest that while no official sequel has been announced, there is ongoing creative momentum behind the scenes. The actor emphasized that the team is still interested in finding the right story rather than rushing into another installment without a strong idea.
Outside of Jason Bourne, Damon is also working on several high-profile projects. He is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic The Odyssey, and he is also reportedly in talks for a new untitled project from Everything Everywhere All At Once directors Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, both under Universal Pictures.
For now, there is no confirmed timeline for a new Bourne film. However, Damon’s willingness to return, combined with Universal’s continued interest in developing the franchise, keeps the possibility open. His remarks indicate that the character has not been retired, and that any future return will depend on finding the right story to bring Jason Bourne back to the screen.
