Peacock’s daily rankings have become something of a battleground this summer, with legacy family films jostling for attention against a certified box office giant. Animated adaptations have dominated the charts for months now, a trend that shows no sign of slowing as older titles keep finding new life on streaming.

The platform’s viewership data, tracked by FlixPatrol, shows a mix of recent hits and comfort watches keeping audiences engaged night after night. Universal’s animated slate in particular has proven to be a reliable draw for the service.

Sitting at number one is ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,’ Illumination and Nintendo’s sequel to 2023’s blockbuster ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie.’ The film is based on Nintendo’s Mario video game franchise and pulls inspiration from games like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. It arrived in theaters on April 1 and became a massive success, and after crossing the billion dollar mark worldwide, the movie is set to hit Peacock for streaming on July 30, following earlier windows on premium video on demand and Blu-ray.

The sequel reunites directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic with writer Matthew Fogel, and stars Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day and Jack Black, alongside newer additions to the cast. Donald Glover joined as Yoshi, with Luis Guzmán voicing Wart and Issa Rae as the Honey Queen, rounding out a roster that leans heavily into the galaxy games’ colorful mythology. The film has now earned more than a billion dollars worldwide, making it the second highest grossing video game movie of all time behind its own predecessor.

Right behind it on the chart sits an unexpected riser, ‘The Angry Birds Movie,’ the 2016 original that introduced Red, Chuck and Bomb to the big screen. The film is currently available to stream on Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus, and its return to the platform’s daily top 10 comes at an interesting moment for the franchise. A third installment, ‘The Angry Birds Movie 3,’ is already scheduled for release on December 23 through Paramount Pictures, with a cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Keke Palmer and even MrBeast joining the voice roster. That upcoming sequel may well be fueling curiosity about the original all over again.

Elsewhere on the list, comfort viewing continues to rule the roost, with ‘Grown Ups’ and both ‘Secret Life of Pets’ entries holding steady positions well after their theatrical runs ended. ‘Kung Fu Panda 2’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3′ also remain in rotation, proving that DreamWorks’ panda saga still has staying power on the platform. Newer titles like ‘You, Me & Tuscany’ and ‘Obsession’ round out the middle of the pack, while ‘Pressure’ closes out the list after losing ground.

With Nintendo’s galaxy adventure holding firm at the top and a decade old bird brawl clawing its way back into the conversation, Peacock’s chart is proving that timing and nostalgia can be just as powerful as a big new release. Which of these Peacock regulars would you actually click play on tonight, the Mushroom Kingdom sequel or a nostalgic revisit with Red and the flock?
