Netflix has found another international thriller that is quickly grabbing viewers’ attention. The Spanish mystery series Oasis has become one of the platform’s most-watched titles in recent days, staying near the top of Netflix’s trending list. However, despite its popularity with streaming audiences, the series has received mixed reactions and currently holds a low 5.3/10 rating on IMDb.

Released globally on June 19, Oasis brings viewers into a luxurious resort where a dream vacation slowly turns into a nightmare. The eight-episode thriller follows a group of wealthy guests who arrive at the exclusive Oasis Infinity resort, expecting relaxation and comfort. Instead, secrets begin to come out, tensions rise, and a mysterious disappearance changes everything.

The story begins when Dani (Tomy Aguilera) arrives at the resort with his mother and his half-sister Sofia (Ada Molina). While the guests enjoy the beautiful location and expensive lifestyle, the peaceful atmosphere quickly starts to fall apart.

The biggest mystery begins when Celia (Victoria Kantch), a young receptionist at the resort, suddenly disappears during a beach party. After the first police investigation fails to uncover answers, Celia’s best friend Helena (Ana Garcés) teams up with Dani, who had developed feelings for her, to search for the truth.

The situation becomes even more intense when police block the entire resort and prevent anyone from leaving. With every guest and employee trapped inside, everyone becomes a possible suspect. The luxury vacation slowly turns into a tense investigation filled with secrets, lies, and hidden conflicts.

Oasis comes from Bambú Producciones, the company behind several successful Spanish series, including Cable Girls, High Seas, and The Asunta Case. The series was produced by the same creative team behind The Asunta Case, including Ramón Campos and Jon de la Cuesta. The cast also features Unax Ugalde, Alicia Borrachero, Mercedes Sampietro, Paco Tous, and Verónica Sánchez.

Because of its luxury resort setting and mystery elements, many viewers immediately compared Oasis to HBO’s popular drama The White Lotus. However, some critics believe the Netflix series has more in common with the Spanish teen drama Elite, especially because of its focus on young characters, secrets, and dramatic twists.

Variety compared the show’s style to a more dramatic and exaggerated version of a resort mystery. The publication noted that “Oasis” feels less like a serious look at class issues and more like “a deliciously trashy teen soap opera.” The review also suggested the series could work as a fun weekend watch because of its dramatic moments and attractive cast, even if some parts feel unrealistic.

Variety added that “the characters are shallow, and the plot is often ridiculous, but the sight of beautiful people making bad decisions is comforting enough to overcome critical instincts.” The review pointed out that while the show touches on social differences between rich and less wealthy characters, those themes are not explored in great depth.

Viewers online have also shared their opinions about the series. Some fans quickly compared it to The White Lotus, with one user writing, “It’s basically The White Lotus but with all young people, or does it just feel that way?” Another joked, “Close enough, welcome back The White Lotus.”

Despite the mixed reviews, Oasis has created enough attention for fans to already ask about a possible second season. Netflix has not announced a renewal yet, and the show was designed as a complete mystery. However, if demand remains strong, the series could potentially continue in an anthology style with a new location and different characters.

For now, all eight episodes of Oasis are available to stream on Netflix.
