Tom Hiddleston Said He Sent Kevin Feige a Text Packed with Exclamation Marks When He Learned About Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Casting

Tom Hiddleston recently shared his initial reaction to the news that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Doctor Doom. Hiddleston, who portrays Loki in the cinematic universe, said he was surprised upon learning the news. He mentioned that he found out about Downey’s casting at the same time as the public, stating, “I didn’t know that until the rest of the world knew that.”
Upon hearing the announcement, Hiddleston immediately reached out to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. He sent a text message filled with exclamation marks, followed by a clarification: “I’d better qualify that. I said, ‘RDJ?!’”
The announcement was made at San Diego Comic-Con almost a year ago, where Downey himself revealed his new role, stating, “New mask, same task.” This unexpected casting has added to the excitement surrounding the upcoming Avengers film.
At first, fan reactions were mixed. Some were excited to see Robert Downey Jr. back in the MCU, while others worried that his connection to both the new villain and the hero of the Infinity Saga might weaken the emotional impact of Endgame and tarnish Iron Man’s legacy.
The exact relationship between Iron Man and Doctor Doom remains unclear, but it seems their connection will be explained. If the rumors are true, Doctor Doom is expected to make his live-action debut in the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Step.
Tom Hiddleston will also play a role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The Loki variant we saw in his solo show will be central to the multiverse chaos, especially considering the transformation he underwent at the end of Loki season 2.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to be released in the United States on December 18, 2026, as part of Phase Six of the MCU.
