Some actors spend entire careers chasing the kind of box office milestone that only comes once in a generation. This summer, one actor managed to hit that milestone twice in the span of a few weeks, thanks to an almost unbelievable run of back-to-back blockbusters that even seasoned industry watchers didn’t see coming.

That run has turned this particular summer into a defining chapter for one of Hollywood’s most bankable young stars, whose career trajectory has quietly been building toward this moment for years. What started as steady, reliable box office performance has now exploded into something genuinely historic.

Tom Holland has officially joined the exclusive club of actors with two films each grossing over $900 million in the same year, with both ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ crossing that threshold. ‘Brand New Day’ opened to a massive $927 million worldwide, the second-largest global opening ever, and was already projected to hit $1 billion within its first week, while Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey,’ also starring Holland, had grossed $911 million globally.

That combined success has pushed Holland’s 2026 total box office earnings to roughly $1.8 billion, according to Forbes, cementing him alongside co-star Zendaya, whose films have collectively earned nearly $2 billion this year, as the entertainment industry’s highest-grossing duo of the year.

The milestone caps off a career trajectory that industry watchers had been tracking closely heading into the summer. Holland entered the year sitting at 14th on the all-time highest-grossing actors chart with a $9.9 billion career total, trailing Dwayne Johnson’s 11th-place spot by roughly $1.5 billion. With both ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Brand New Day’ now performing well above initial expectations, that gap has narrowed significantly.

Should ‘Brand New Day’ continue its current trajectory toward the $2 billion mark, and ‘The Odyssey’ add substantially more to its own total, Holland’s career gross could climb north of $13 billion, putting him within range of cracking the all-time top 10 highest-grossing actors list, a chart currently anchored by names like Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Zoe Saldaña.

The ‘Brand New Day’ box office run alone has been staggering on its own terms. According to Yahoo, the film opened with $360 million domestically, the largest domestic opening ever for a movie, beating the previous record set by 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ while grossing $932 million globally in its first three days.

Holland’s ascent up the all-time rankings arrives at a particularly interesting moment for his career, with speculation swirling over whether he’ll return for the next MCU team-up event, ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ later this year. Given how dramatically his box office standing has shifted over the past several weeks, any future franchise appearances could push his career totals even higher, faster than anyone anticipated at the start of the year.

For an actor who first broke through playing a teenage superhero, watching his name climb toward the same rarefied air as some of Hollywood’s most decorated leading men marks a genuinely remarkable turning point.

Will Tom Holland become one of the top 10 highest-grossing actors ever?
