When Sony’s latest animated flick ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ hit theaters ten days ago, the fans were so full of praise that we almost forgot about Sony’s live-action Marvel movies, where the situation isn’t so great. No one can deny that Sony did a great job with the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise, but we’re still waiting to see where Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (with no Spider-Man in it) is supposed to lead.

So far, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has spawned three movies; two ‘Venom‘ movies and ‘Morbius.’ Neither of these movies was a subject of praise, although Venom movies pulled off decent commercial results, while ‘Morbius’ turned out to be an absolute flop, both critically and commercially. While it’s safe to say that we won’t see the ‘Morbius’ sequel, the box office results urged Sony to start developing ‘Venom 3.’

When will ‘Venom 3’ premiere in theaters?

According to Variety’s latest report, the third movie in the ‘Venom’ franchise starring Tom Hardy is expected to hit theaters in October 2024, which makes a lot of sense considering that the first movie was released in October 2018, and the sequel ‘Let There Be Carnage’ in October 2021. So, we’re talking about three-year intervals with these movies.

‘Ted Lasso’ star Juno Temple recently spoke about ‘Venom 3,’ in which she was cast in an undisclosed role. The actress revealed that she didn’t start filming her scenes yet, although the movie recently started production. She also set she should join the production very soon and that she’s thrilled about it. Tom Hardy is reprising the role of Eddie Brock, and ‘Doctor Strange’ star Chiwetel Ejiofor also joined the movie in an undisclosed role.

With three movies released so far, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe grossed $1.526 billion worldwide, although only the first ‘Venom’ movie brought $856 million. The sequel was released during the pandemic, but it still managed to gross $506 million. The franchise’s first commercial flop happened with ‘Morbius’ which, after seven (if I remember correctly) delays, grossed only $167.5 million.

While the exact release date for ‘Venom 3’ is yet to be revealed, we already know when we’re going to watch the next two movies set in this franchise. ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ Sony’s first R-rated Marvel movie, is set to be released on October 6, 2023, and ‘Madame Web’ is scheduled to be released on February 16, 2024.

Kelly Marcel, who wrote previous ‘Venom’ movies, returns as the writer for the third one, and she will also direct the movie in her directorial debut.
