Was Obi-Wan Kenobi Ever Married? His Love Interest Explained

Share:

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story in Star Wars has always been one of the most intriguing tales because he sacrificed a lot of things in life and was the most selfless out of all of the Jedi. His heroism eventually led to the fall of the Sith Order. But while Obi-Wan’s status as a true hero can never be questioned, some people were wondering whether or not he was true to the vow of the Jedi to never have romantic attachments. So, was Obi-Wan Kenobi ever married?

There was never a point wherein Obi-Wan Kenobi was married. He was always true to the vow of a Jedi to never have romantic attachments. However, before he became a Jedi Knight, he fell in love with Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore. But nothing came out of his feelings for Satine.

Like most Jedi, Obi-Wan encountered a dilemma in life when he fell in love with someone. This was quite normal for the Jedi because many Jedi couldn’t help but have romantic feelings for other people. However, the good part about Kenobi’s feelings was that he never acted on them and was never in a relationship with Satine. So, let’s try to look at what we know about Obi-Wan’s romantic life.

Obi-Wan didn’t have a wife

The thing about the Jedi is that it was always important for them to avoid having romantic feelings for other people because attachments were harmful to the Jedi’s alignment with the light side. It was believed that falling in love would mean that the Jedi would become more susceptible to the dark side due to their fear of losing their loved ones. And fear was the path to the dark side of the Force.

Nevertheless, falling in love wasn’t totally avoidable for the Jedi, and that means that even the best of them fell in love at one point. Some of them even had wives in secret, as was the case for Anakin Skywalker, who married Padmé Amidala in secret after realizing they both loved one another. And Obi-Wan Kenobi often reminded Anakin to keep his feelings in check.

But what about Obi-Wan? Well, for starters, he never had a wife in his entire life. He was taken into the Jedi Order as a child, like most of the other Jedi during the time of the Jedi Order. And that means that there was never a point before the Jedi Order that he was married.

Even after the fall of the Jedi Order, Obi-Wan Kenobi didn’t marry anyone or even fell in love. When he was hiding from the Empire after the Jedi Order was destroyed, he no longer had a reason to stay true to the Jedi Order’s mandate of not falling in love because there was no longer a Jedi Order at all. But Obi-Wan was focused on his own mission of keeping Luke Skywalker safe while he was on Tatooine.

As such, Obi-Wan was dedicated to his role of protecting the child, who was considered the only hope to destroy the Sith Order and return peace to the galaxy once more. He didn’t have the luxury of falling in love or marrying someone, as he understood that his role was far more important than anything else.

Were Satine and Obi-Wan in love?

Of course, while Obi-Wan Kenobi was never married before he became a Jedi Knight, the thing is that he still fell in love when he was still a Jedi Padawan. And this was something that was brought about by his youthfulness.

When the Mandalorian Civil War between the New Mandalorians and the traditional Mandalorians was ongoing, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi were given a mission by the Jedi Council. They were tasked to protect Satine Kryze, who was one of the leaders of the New Mandalorians. As such, for one year, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan acted as Satine’s protectors while on the run in different places around the galaxy, not knowing what would come next.

While they were on the run, Obi-Wan and Satine formed a close bond as they were close in terms of their age. The time that they spent together allowed them to learn more about one another, as Obi-Wan learned to admire Satine’s optimism and hope for a better future. That was when he fell in love with her. And Satine also admired Obi-Wan’s strength and conviction and fell in love with him.

The two of them were in love with one another during the time that they were traveling for a span of about one year. However, neither of them acted on their feelings because they understood that nothing was going to come out of their love for one another. Satine was destined to rule Mandalore. On the other hand, Obi-Wan was destined to be a Jedi.

So, after the job was over, they parted ways without even telling each other their feelings. They regretted ever falling in love with one another but were thankful for the experience as it allowed them to become better people.

But during the Clone Wars, they reunited as adults who were already at different stations in life. Obi-Wan was a Jedi Master, whereas Satine was the ruler of Mandalore. But while that may have been true, they both admitted to one another after so many years that they were in love. And Kenobi told Satine that he would have left the Jedi Order had Satine told him her feelings for him.

Did Obi-Wan and Satine have a child?

Even though nothing came out of the love that Obi-Wan and Satine had for one another, some fans believed that they actually had a child that Satine kept from him. And the person they believed was Obi-Wan’s secret son was Korkie Kryze.

Of course, there were good reasons why some fans thought that Korkie was Obi-Wan’s son. He was born right around the time that Obi-Wan and Satine parted ways. While Korkie was introduced as Satine’s nephew, there was never a point wherein his parents were mentioned. And Korkie actually looks a bit like Obi-Wan.

But these are all just speculations. As far as the current canon is concerned, Obi-Wan and Satine never consummated their love for one another or made any actions that would have suggested to one another that they were both in love. Neither of them acted on their feelings, which means there couldn’t have been a chance for Obi-Wan and Satine to become intimate.
