Who Will Die in Avengers 5 & 6? Here Are Our 10 Best Guesses

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may not be the oldest, but it’s definitely the largest shared universe that we’ve been following on the big and small screens for years. As we look forward to every new movie and TV show that Disney and Marvel Studios have in store, we’ve learned by now that crossover movies are where the MCU reaches its pinnacle of epicness and gigantic storytelling.

Following the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the MCU started its second saga — The Multiverse Saga — consisting of three new phases. At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced that this second saga will reach its peak with two brand-new Avengers movies — Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars — which are set to be released in May 2025 and May 2026, respectively.

It’s not wrong to say that The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars are sort of the Infinity War and Endgame of the Multiverse Saga. Therefore we can expect a big roster of characters appearing in these movies as much as Marvel Studios can expect a big box-office result from them. We still remember the days when we were all expecting Infinity War and Endgame, and we remember how much we speculated which characters would most likely not survive to see the end of the saga.

With that in mind, we’ve created this list of characters we think will most likely die in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Disclaimer, the official cast for none of these movies has been revealed at the time of this writing, so keep in mind that what you’re about to read is just our theory, so we can’t know if any of these characters will even appear, let alone die in these films for sure.

Ant-Man

There have been numerous theories about Ant-Man’s potential death in the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which we didn’t believe, to be honest. Quantumania might’ve concluded the Ant-Man trilogy in the MCU, but we can tell that Scot Lang’s story still isn’t at its end. Still, his end might happen in one of the two upcoming Avengers movies.

The facts that support this theory are not only that Scott Lang has been part of the MCU for a while. It seems like his closing chapter is nearing, but also the fact that he has a history with Kang the Conqueror now, and his death might be one of those deaths that will be there to show the strength and ruthlessness of the Multiverse Saga’s greatest villain.

Thor

Chris Hemsworth is one of the biggest MCU veterans. He has starred in four solo movies and all four Avengers movies so far. His latest movie Thor: Love and Thunder, confirmed after the post-credit scene that Thor would return, which will certainly be in the upcoming Avengers movies, if not before. Thor’s been one of the most vital members of the MCU’s roster for 12 years now, and by the time Secret Wars comes out, it will be 15 years.

It seems like both the studio and the actor are slowly gearing up to say farewell to God of Thunder. Even though Thor is one of the most powerful characters and therefore, it’s extremely hard to kill him, Kang the Conqueror mentioned how he killed “an Avenger with a hammer” before in some alternate timeline, which could implicate that Thor’s MCU journey might end tragically.

Loki and/or Sylvie

Okay, we admit, killing Loki again would probably be the most cliche thing that writers could pull off in the future of the MCU. We have already lost count of how many times he returned from the dead, so killing him again, it would be an understatement to say that no one would believe this is really the end for Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.

Still, Loki and his variant Sylvie played the key part in bringing Kang the Conqueror into the MCU after Sylvie killed Nathaniel Richards, aka He Who Remains, only one of the countless variants of Kang, which opened the way to the introduction of the Multiverse and Kang as the big bad of the Multiverse Saga. It wouldn’t be a surprise if, in some way, either Loki or Sylvie faced the music for what happened at the end of the Loki series.

Hawkeye

Just like Thor, Hawkeye is one of the longest-running members of the Avengers in the MCU. Jeremy Renner played the character for the first time in 2011’s Thor, and he appeared in three out of four Avengers movies, Captain America: Civil War, and his own Disney+ series. While the fans speculated that the series could be the end for him since it also introduced his protegee Kate Bishop, the finale of the series didn’t really seem like it said farewell to Renner as Hawkeye.

It’s hard to predict if Renner will play Hawkeye again, given that he was recently involved in a snowplow accident in which he broke more than 30 bones. Renner is regularly posting updates on social media to assure his fans that his recovery is going well, but it’s still unknown how that will affect his career in the future. We are hoping that he will be good as new once he completes his recovery. As for the character of Clint Barton, even if Renner never returns to the role, it doesn’t mean that screenwriters won’t find a way to write the character off the franchise, even in a tragic way.

Doctor Strange

Benedict Cumberbatch first played Doctor Strange in the 2016 movie of the same name. After playing a crucial role in saving the universe against Thanos, he also becomes one of the most vital members of the roster. His second solo movie was released in 2022, and a third one is most likely on its way, although it hasn’t been officially announced yet.

MCU’s Phase 6 currently has only three movies on its slate, and it is rumored that the potential Doctor Strange 3 might be added to it later, meaning that movie would happen before Secret Wars. If that happens, it wouldn’t be a surprise if we say farewell to Doctor Strange in the next crossover movie once he completes his own trilogy. On the other hand, the Master of the Mystic Arts could still be very important for the MCU in its post-Secret Wars days, so even though there’s a chance, the probability of his death is rather low.

Scarlet Witch

Let’s face it, no one believes that Scarlet Witch is dead after Doctor Strange’s events in the Multiverse of Madness, and the actress Elizabeth Olsen also said that she wants to return to the role. While there are some projects in which the Scarlet Witch might potentially appear as the guest star (Agatha: Coven of Chaos and Vision Quest ), if we’re going to need to say farewell to such an important character before the Multiverse Saga ends, it will surely be in one of the two upcoming Avengers movies.

Killing off someone so powerful as Scarlet Witch would certainly make Kang the most powerful villain the MCU has ever seen. Also, since Scarlet Witch was the villain the last time we saw her, one part of her redemption arc in the future could be making some ultimate sacrifice.

Spider-Man

Spider-Man has experienced more than most of the MCU’s superheroes. Since he was introduced to the franchise in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland’s web-slinger has fought against Thanos twice, and he completed his own trilogy in 2021. It was already announced that the fourth Spider-Man movie is in development, and it is certainly expected that Spider-Man will be part of the upcoming Avengers movies.

It’s unknown how long Holland is willing to play this role, but if they already know how to say farewell to Spider-Man in the MCU, it could be in one of the upcoming Avengers movies. Of course, there’s always a chance that he could be killed off and then brought back, but they already used that formula once.

Wong

You noticed how Wong was basically “everywhere” during Phase 4. We’d say he got quite a lot of screen time for one supporting character. We don’t want to sound pessimistic, but we could not shake the feeling that all this could mean that writers are gearing him up for some kind of sacrifice in the upcoming movies.

Wong is currently the official Sorcerer Supreme since Doctor Strange was absent from the living world for five years after Thanos’ snap. Knowing how powerful and important Doctor Strange is, it wouldn’t surprise us if he eventually regains the title of Sorcerer Supreme. The only way to do that without creating a quarrel between them is to give Wong some kind of brave sacrifice.

Hank Pym

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania ended with practically no victims among the characters that are important for the future of the MCU. Although the movie’s post-credit scene promised us the return of Kang, and not specifically Ant-Man, as those scenes usually do, it’s still obvious that the smallest heroes haven’t said their last words in the MCU yet.

We have already written about Ant-Man, but one of the potential victims in the upcoming Avengers movies might also be Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym. Before Quantumania was released, Douglas said at one moment that he’d return for the potential Ant-Man 4 only if the writers killed off his character in that movie. Considering the current box-office results, we don’t think that Ant-Man 4 is likely to happen, but the writers could easily grant Douglas his wish in either The Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars.

Multiple Kang Variants

Of course, we saved this one for last. We have already witnessed how the death of Nathaniel Richards in the Loki series has already opened the way for the arrival of Kang and his other variants that we have seen in the post-credit scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It’s known that Kang will be the main villain in the upcoming crossover movies, and given that there are so many of his variants, it’s just so obvious that some of them, if not all, will be killed off before or during the final confrontation for the future of the Multiverse.

Of course, dozens of characters could potentially meet a tragic fate since The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness previously teased that the next Avengers movie might have a high death toll. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is probably the most anticipated MCU movie since Endgame. We trust that Marvel will do their best to make it one of the boldest movies yet, even without thinking about Secret Wars at the moment.
