‘X-Men ’97’ Season 2 Trailer Unleashes a Bold, Controversial New Look for Wolverine
Marvel fans have plenty to talk about after a new X-Men ’97 Season 2 trailer appeared online. The preview gives viewers a look at many of the characters returning for the next chapter of the animated series, while also teasing some big story developments that could change the future of the X-Men.
According to footage featured in the new trailer, Season 2 will bring back most of the fan-favorite heroes from the first season. Characters such as Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Storm, Rogue, Jubilee, Nightcrawler, Forge, Bishop, Morph, and Wolverine are all set to return. The trailer also showcases several other mutants, including Sunspot, Cable, Archangel, Emma Frost, Polaris, Havok, Multiple Man, Psylocke, Wolfsbane, Strong Guy, and Siryn. However, one character reveal has generated more discussion than any other.
The trailer offers the first look at Wolverine‘s new appearance, and it seems Marvel is adapting one of the most controversial chapters from the character’s comic book history. Instead of his usual look, Logan appears in his Feral Wolverine form, a version of the character that divided fans when it first appeared in Marvel Comics.
In the comics, Wolverine entered this state after Magneto violently removed the Adamantium from his skeleton. The traumatic event weakened him physically and mentally. Later attempts to restore him only made things worse, causing Logan to become more animalistic and less in control of his actions. His appearance changed dramatically, making him look far more savage than the Wolverine most readers knew.
The trailer suggests that X-Men ’97 will follow a similar path. Wolverine is shown with his natural bone claws, another important part of that storyline. Fans quickly noticed that this animated version of Feral Wolverine looks different from the comic book design. Many viewers have already commented that the new version appears much more polished and visually appealing than the original comic interpretation.
The story of Season 2 picks up after the dramatic ending of Season 1. The X-Men were separated across different time periods and locations, leaving the team divided as new threats emerge. At the same time, tensions between mutants and humans continue to grow, creating even more challenges for the heroes.

Another surprising moment in the trailer involves Magneto. Despite the conflict that developed between him and the X-Men during the first season, he appears to be working alongside the team once again. The footage even shows Magneto speaking about cooperation with Professor X and the X-Men.
That development is particularly interesting because Magneto’s actions played a major role in Wolverine’s current condition. Fans of the comics know that Magneto was responsible for removing Wolverine’s Adamantium, and Season 2 seems ready to explore the consequences of that event.
The final moments of the trailer tease the arrival of Apocalypse, who appears to be the main villain of the new season. His appearance immediately sparked speculation among fans. In the comics, Apocalypse famously offered Wolverine a chance to regain his Adamantium by becoming one of his Horsemen. Some viewers believe the series could be setting up a similar storyline.
There is also growing speculation that Gambit could return in some form. Many fans remember that Apocalypse transformed Gambit into a Horseman in the comics, and the new season may borrow elements from that story as well.
While Marvel has not confirmed exactly how closely the show will follow the comic books, the trailer makes one thing clear. X-Men ’97 Season 2 is preparing for some of the biggest and most dramatic storylines in the franchise’s history.
X-Men ’97 returns to Disney+ on July 1 with a nine-episode second season.
