‘X-Men’ Reboot Rogue Star Inde Navarrette Stuns in Glamorous New Magazine Cover
Inde Navarrette has spent the past several years steadily building her résumé, best known to television audiences for playing Sarah Cushing across four seasons of the CW’s ‘Superman & Lois.’ That familiarity took a sharp turn earlier this year when she stepped into her first true horror lead, and the response has followed her ever since, culminating in one of the more striking magazine spreads of her career so far.
That role, Nikki in Curry Barker’s indie horror film ‘Obsession,’ has become something of a breakout moment for the 25-year-old actress, one that recently earned her a full cover feature and photoshoot with A Shot Magazine. Shot in stark red tones by photographer Emily Sandifer, the spread pairs striking visuals with a wide-ranging conversation about the film, her process, and what drew her to such an unsettling project in the first place.
Navarrette told A Shot Magazine that reading the script marked the first time she instantly understood a character on a fundamental level, saying she immediately knew exactly what Nikki was feeling and exactly how to portray her. That instinct became her driving reason for pursuing the role, alongside a broader desire to finally showcase her full range in a single film after years spent primarily working in television.
Much of Navarrette’s interview focused on the process of building Nikki’s deeply uneasy dynamic with Bear, played by Michael Johnston. She described their chemistry read as immediately striking specifically because the two actors avoided playing the characters as lovers, a choice that let their relationship feel genuinely strange and off in a way the film needed to work.
That trust between the two actors, Navarrette explained, allowed them to push each other into emotional territory that felt unsafe despite having known each other for only a few weeks before filming began. She described relying on constant check-ins with Johnston throughout the shoot, crediting that sense of security with allowing both performances to reach the intensity the film required.
Navarrette also opened up about her preparation process, revealing that she and her castmates watched ‘Hereditary’ together with director Curry Barker before filming began to establish the tone he was chasing. She specifically pointed to Mia Goth’s performance in ‘Pearl’ as a major influence, studying Goth’s vocal and physical intensity not to imitate the role but to better understand how to bring her own character to life.
Despite the acclaim surrounding her performance, Navarrette admitted she’s only watched ‘Obsession’ once herself, at its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, describing the experience as genuinely unsettling even though she was the one who played the character at its center.
Looking ahead, Navarrette told the magazine she’s set to move into the action genre next year, something she’s been excited about since childhood. She also recently joined Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men‘ reboot as Rogue, part of a newly unveiled cast that includes Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, and Samara Weaving, giving her breakout year an even bigger platform heading into 2026 and beyond.
With ‘Obsession’ continuing to build buzz and a major franchise role now on her plate, Navarrette’s A Shot Magazine cover feels like a fitting spotlight on an actress whose profile is only rising. Between her willingness to fully commit to Nikki’s most uncomfortable moments and her clear excitement about what comes next, the interview paints the picture of a performer just getting started.
How excited are you to see Inde Navarrette take on Rogue in Marvel’s new ‘X-Men’ movie?
