‘Camp Rock’ Star Demi Lovato’s Dorothy Gale Halloween Look Is Making a Comeback, and It’s Still a Yellow Brick Road Showstopper
Halloween season always brings out the best in celebrity costume culture, and few stars take it as seriously as Demi Lovato. Over the years, she has turned the holiday into a showcase for her sense of humor, her love of pop culture and her willingness to commit to a bit. Her Demi Lovato Dorothy Gale costume from ‘The Wizard of Oz’ is now circulating again, and it’s easy to see why fans still love it.
The photos show Lovato in a classic Dorothy ensemble, complete with all the details that make the character instantly recognizable. They arrive at the perfect time, as fans look for inspiration ahead of October 31.
In the pictures, Lovato wears a blue-and-white gingham dress with white puff sleeves, a white apron and a frilled petticoat peeking out from the hem. Her dark hair is styled in braided pigtails tied with blue ribbons, and she carries a wicker basket with Toto tucked inside. She finishes the look with white ankle socks and sparkly red heels, which pay tribute to Dorothy’s famous ruby slippers.
One photo shows her walking down a path at night, and another has her posing against a brick wall and a colorful graffiti backdrop. The styling is playful and polished, and the red shoes pop against the muted setting.

It’s worth pointing out that the sources I found tie this particular costume to Halloween 2016, when Lovato posted her Dorothy look on Instagram. Nick Jonas was also photographed as the Scarecrow that year, and the pair’s ‘Wizard of Oz’ pairing became a highlight of the season’s celebrity costume roundups. So while the images are making rounds again, they are a nostalgic throwback rather than a brand-new reveal.
That doesn’t make the look any less fun. Classic characters like Dorothy tend to age well, and the costume shows how Lovato has always leaned into recognizable, crowd-pleasing icons.
Lovato’s costume history is one of the most reliably entertaining in pop music. In 2019, she dressed as Pennywise from ‘It’, a surprisingly spooky choice that made the ET roundup of the year’s best costumes. More recently, she’s gone in a much sillier direction.
Last year, she wore a green bodysuit covered in leaves and a red headpiece to become Poison Ivy, and fans quickly called her Halloween royalty. Her caption for that post riffed on a song lyric about being far from good.
Her most talked-about costume came on October 30, 2025, when she transformed into ‘Poot Lovato’, the viral meme that began as an altered, washed-out photo of her and sparked a running joke about a secret twin locked in a basement. She posted photos and TikTok videos of herself in character, including a time-lapse of the makeup process that involved 2 makeup artists, a wig and a lot of foundation.
She tied the post to the release of her album ‘It’s Not That Deep’, joking that she had been so locked in on the era that she decided to let the character out. The post drew more than a million likes, and friends such as Charli XCX and Katy Perry left enthusiastic comments. PAPER even called it the best niche gay Halloween costume.
Lovato’s year has stayed busy. ‘It’s Not That Deep’ came out on October 24, 2025, and she toured North America in support of it from April to May 2026, with stops from Orlando to Houston. A deluxe edition arrived in April, and she released the single ‘Low Rise Jeans’ that same month.
She also stepped out in Los Angeles this month for an event celebrating National PrEP Day, wearing a purple-and-red corset-style mini dress that drew plenty of attention. Her style has remained bold and playful, which fits a performer who clearly loves dressing up.
Part of the appeal is Lovato’s relationship with the holiday itself. She has said she is a huge fan of ghosts and has spoken about feeling a deep connection to the spiritual world, which gives her costumes a sincere edge. At the same time, she has always been willing to laugh at herself, as the Poot costume proved.
That mix of fandom and humor makes each new costume feel like an event. If this throwback Dorothy look is any sign, fans are already wondering what she has planned for this year.
