Robert Kirkman Reveals a Surprising Source of Inspiration Behind Perfecting Invincible
Robert Kirkman, the creator behind both The Walking Dead and Invincible, recently shared some interesting thoughts on how his experience with The Walking Dead has helped him make Invincible better.
In an interview with Deadline, Kirkman explained how lessons learned from the ups and downs of The Walking Dead have influenced the way he approaches the Invincible animated series.
Kirkman talked about one of the big problems with The Walking Dead: the later seasons felt uneven because the show didn’t plan far enough ahead. He said that while he agreed with many changes during the show’s run, he “didn’t properly plan for the butterfly effects that came from those changes.”
At the time, the Walking Dead comic book series was still ongoing, so the TV show didn’t have a clear roadmap. He mentioned, “You get to Season 6-Season 9, and you have entire storylines from the comic that don’t work anymore because none of the work was done to set those up beforehand.”
This experience has made a big difference in how he works on Invincible. Since the Invincible comic is already finished, Kirkman and his team know exactly where the story is headed. That lets them plan the show better, making sure future seasons fit together smoothly. He explained:
“There’s a lot of decisions that were made on Invincible Season 1- Season 3, that were made just in case we get to adapt the entire comic so that when we’re going Season 5- Season 6 if we’re fortunate enough to do those, we know the track has been laid, and things have been planned.”
Kirkman also said that the Invincible seasons have explored different parts of the story so far, like the journeys of Anissa and Nolan, and the fight against Conquest. But fans who want to see more of the alien Viltrumite race won’t have to wait much longer. He promised, “Season 4 has more Viltrumite stuff that you might be wanting.”
Even better, Kirkman confirmed that the villain Thragg will appear in Season 4, which is exciting news for fans who’ve been waiting to see more of the Viltrumite story.
Overall, Kirkman says Season 4 will bring bigger battles and deeper storytelling. The show keeps raising the stakes every season, proving that Invincible still has a lot more to offer.
