A24 is giving horror fans another reason to return to the strange world of Backrooms. The surprise box office hit is coming back to theaters with a new extended version that adds extra footage and a special post-credit scene.

According to a listing on AMC’s website, the new release is titled Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition. The updated version will include 15 minutes of additional material from director Kane Parsons and will be shown exclusively in theaters. The extended cut will have a total runtime of 2 hours and 6 minutes and will arrive on July 3, just in time for the busy July 4 holiday weekend.

The move comes after Backrooms became one of the biggest success stories in A24’s history. The horror film was made with a budget of only around $10 million but has earned more than $330 million worldwide. That success has turned the movie into one of the most profitable releases of the year and a major achievement for both the studio and its young filmmaker.

Parsons’ rise has been one of the most surprising parts of the film’s success. Before directing the movie, the 20-year-old filmmaker built a huge online following through his Backrooms-inspired videos on YouTube. His internet work caught Hollywood’s attention and eventually led to the feature film adaptation that became a major theatrical hit.

The movie follows a furniture store owner, played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who discovers a mysterious and endless collection of strange spaces hidden beneath the store. As he explores the unsettling locations, he becomes trapped in a world that feels impossible to escape. The cast also includes Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell.

With the extended edition, A24 is hoping to bring audiences back for another trip into the unsettling world created by Parsons. The studio is using the holiday weekend to attract both fans who already watched the movie and viewers who may have missed it during its first theatrical run.

Backrooms is also arriving during a competitive period at the box office. The re-release will share theaters with major summer releases, including Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 and Universal and Illumination’s Minions & Monsters. Despite that competition, A24 appears confident that the film’s strong fanbase will help the extended version find an audience.

The success of Backrooms also continues a recent trend of smaller horror movies becoming major hits. Another example is Obsession, a low-budget horror film from Focus that was directed by 26-year-old Curry Barker, who also gained attention through YouTube. That movie reportedly earned more than $370 million globally despite costing only about $750,000 to make.

Both films show how horror has become a strong space for young filmmakers with creative ideas and online communities behind them. Backrooms, in particular, has proven that a project that starts on the internet can grow into a major theatrical event.

A24 has not released an official statement about the extended version yet, but the AMC listing confirms that fans will soon have another chance to experience Parsons’ disturbing and mysterious world on the big screen.
