Backrooms is a 2026 American surreal sci-fi psychological horror film directed by Kane Parsons in his feature debut. It is based on his viral 2022 web series and the popular “Backrooms” creepypasta, following a furniture store owner and his therapist who discover a strange dimension of endless, liminal spaces hidden beneath a basement.
The project was first developed after Parsons gained attention online, leading to a studio-backed adaptation that began production in 2025 and wrapped later that year. After premiering in Los Angeles, the film was released in U.S. theaters by A24 on May 29, 2026.
The movie became a major hit, earning about $118 million worldwide and becoming A24’s biggest opening. It also made Parsons the youngest filmmaker ever to reach number one at the box office.
