Ahsoka Had No Idea That Obi-Wan Was Alive After Order 66, Here’s Why
One of the things that we know about the Jedi Order is that only a few Jedi survived Order 66 and the subsequent purge that took place after that. Of course, while some Jedi survived the initial onslaught, they got killed by the Empire and the Inquisitors after that. But prominent names, such as Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi, survived Order 66 and went on to live during the time of the Empire. So, did Ahsoka ever find out that Obi-Wan survived?
Ahsoka Tano knew that Obi-Wan Kenobi survived the initial effects of Order 66 because he released a broadcast that may have reached her. However, it is ambiguous whether or not she ever found out that Obi-Wan went on to live during the time of the Empire as he kept his survival a secret of utmost importance.
Out of all of the Jedi who ended up surviving Order 66, Obi-Wan was arguably the most important survivor as he had the most important task of guarding the boy he thought was the Chosen One who could do what Anakin Skywalker couldn’t do. As such, he kept his survival a secret to almost everyone except Bail Organa. That said, let’s look at whether or not Ahsoka had any idea of Obi-Wan’s survival.
Ahsoka and Obi-Wan had a healthy relationship
During the Clone Wars, what was clear was that Ahsoka Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi were good allies and friends. Out of all of the Jedi, Obi-Wan was arguably the one whom Ahsoka trusted the most, behind only her own master, Anakin Skywalker. And that’s because they both went through different life-and-death situations that allowed them to see each other’s character.
Of course, when Ahsoka was first introduced, Anakin initially thought she would be Obi-Wan’s new Padawan. But he was surprised to know that she was his apprentice instead. Nevertheless, Ahsoka and Obi-Wan also developed a good relationship because they often went on missions together, especially because Obi-Wan and Anakin were almost always tasked to pair up during missions. And that was why Ahsoka and Obi-Wan were able to form a healthy relationship that was rooted in mutual respect and trust.
In fact, during the investigation involving the bombing of the Jedi Temple, Obi-Wan was one of the few Jedi on the Jedi Council who trusted Ahsoka enough to think that she couldn’t go against the Jedi Order. Nevertheless, he still failed to protect her because he was unsure of how he would approach the politics involving the Jedi Order and the Republic’s desire to interfere. In that regard, while Ahsoka still respected Obi-Wan, things weren’t exactly the same after that, especially after Ahsoka left the Jedi Order.
Obi-Wan broadcasted a message to all Jedi
Of course, we know that Order 66 happened shortly after Ahsoka Tano left the Jedi Order. Palpatine, who turned out to be the Sith Lord named Darth Sidious, turned the Jedi into traitors and allowed the clones to hunt them all down by compelling them into killing them due to the effects of the inhibitor chips inside their heads.
In that regard, all of the clones attacked the Jedi on sight, and while there were Jedi survivors, more than 90% of the entire Jedi population was wiped out. Of course, Anakin led the clones in the attack on the Jedi Temple, where he and the clones killed the Jedi stationed there. The Jedi Temple became a trap because any Jedi who returned to Coruscant were immediately gunned down.
Obi-Wan Kenobi, of course, survived the events of Order 66. He and another survivor, Yoda, met up with one another as they planned their next move. Obi-Wan and Yoda snuck into the Jedi Temple not only to learn about what happened there but also to broadcast a message that was meant to warn all of the Jedi throughout the galaxy of what had just happened.
In that regard, all of the Jedi who received Obi-Wan’s message knew that he survived the initial effects of Order 66 and was alive long enough to broadcast a message to all of the Jedi in the galaxy. But the thing is that no one was sure about what happened to him after that because all of the Jedi went into hiding and even cut their communications off with their fellow Jedi. On top of that, they needed to avoid the wrath of the Empire, who sent out special soldiers and Inquisitors to hunt down any survivors.
Obi-Wan’s survival was top secret
Of course, Ahsoka Tano was also one of the Jedi who survived Order 66 even though she wasn’t in the ideal location when Order 66 broke out. After that, she went into hiding for a year as she lost hope in the Jedi and in the fight against the Empire.
But somewhere along the way, she must have learned about Obi-Wan Kenobi’s message to all of the Jedi. In ‘Star Wars: Rebels,’ Kanan Jarrus owned a Jedi Holocron that contained Kenobi’s message to all of the Jedi. We all know that Obi-Wan was still alive at that time as he went into hiding to watch over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine before he ultimately died in ‘Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.’
Ezra Bridger often played this message over and over again. Of course, Ahsoka ended up meeting Kanan and Ezra and even went on to become a mentor figure to them. In that regard, she must’ve known that Obi-Wan survived Order 66.
But around 15 years had already passed between Order 66 and ‘Rebels.’ That means that Ahsoka must have accepted the possibility that even Obi-Wan died in the purge of the Jedi. In the ‘Ahsoka’ novel, she even used the Force to reach out and feel the presence of the Jedi she was familiar with, only to realize that she could no longer feel any of them, including Obi-Wan.
As such, Ahsoka never found out what happened to Obi-Wan after Order 66, even though she may have known that he survived the initial onslaught. And the strange part is that both Ahsoka and Obi-Wan were in contact with Senator Bail Organa, who was the biggest ally that the Jedi Order had at that time.
It is important to take note that Bail understood just how important Obi-Wan’s mission was as he was tasked with guarding and watching over Luke Skywalker on Tatooine in the hopes of training him as the one who could eventually defeat Darth Vader and the Empire. As such, even Bail was aware that he needed to keep Obi-Wan’s survival as the greatest secret in the galaxy as the survival of the Jedi and the galaxy was at stake.
This is why Ahsoka likely never found out anything about Obi-Wan during the time of the Empire. It is possible that she eventually found out about it after meeting Luke Skywalker during the era of the New Republic. But she likely never knew about Kenobi’s survival during the Imperial era.
