‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reportedly Set for Earlier Release in Major Global Markets, Fans React to Surprise Shift
Avengers: Doomsday may reach some international audiences a few days before its official U.S. debut.
The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on December 18, 2026. However, new information suggests that several countries, including Brazil, Italy, and Norway, are now listed for a December 16, 2026 release date. That means fans in those regions could see the movie up to two days earlier than audiences in North America.
The early dates were first highlighted in a post on X, where The Beyond Reporter wrote, “Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 16th in Brazil, 2 days before the US.” The post quickly gained attention among Marvel fans who are closely tracking every update about the highly anticipated film.
Disney had previously shifted Avengers: Doomsday from its original May 2026 release window to December 18. The move was announced in May 2025 and was explained as a scheduling decision to give the production more time to finish filming and post-production work. At the same time, the studio also adjusted the release date for Avengers: Secret Wars, pushing it to December 17, 2027.
Early international releases are not unusual for major Hollywood blockbusters. Marvel Studios has often rolled out films in select global markets ahead of the U.S. premiere, with Brazil frequently among the countries receiving earlier screenings. This strategy is typically used to build global momentum and avoid piracy leaks in certain regions.
Avengers: Doomsday is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, marking their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame. The film also brings back Robert Downey Jr., who takes on a new role as Doctor Doom. The cast includes a large ensemble of returning and new Marvel characters such as Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Vanessa Kirby, Simu Liu, and Tom Hiddleston.
The movie also expands the MCU by introducing characters from other Marvel film universes. Actors from Fox’s X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming, are set to return, adding to the scale of the crossover event.
Filming for Doomsday took place between April and September 2025 at Pinewood Studios in the United Kingdom, along with additional location shoots. Actor Anthony Mackie previously teased the scale of the story, saying in an interview that “everyone is expendable,” hinting at high stakes and major character consequences.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has also described the upcoming crossover event Avengers: Secret Wars as one of the most ambitious projects the studio has ever attempted, suggesting that Doomsday will set the stage for even larger multiverse storylines.
Avengers: Doomsday is part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is expected to bring together multiple hero teams, including the Avengers, Wakandans, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, all facing off against Doctor Doom in a multiverse-level conflict.
While the official U.S. release remains December 18, the updated international listings suggest some fans may not have to wait quite as long to see one of Marvel’s biggest crossover films yet.
