The Marvel Cinematic Universe is such a gigantic popular franchise that we’re getting more news, rumors, and leaks about it basically every day, and absolutely everything that’s happening behind the scenes can’t be overlooked by hordes of fans who are always waiting for more news about upcoming projects. Of course, the news can be good and bad, and judging by fans’ reactions on social media, this newest one could go either way.

Some bad news we’ve heard about the MCU in recent times is that the Blade movie once again had to postpone its development due to the WGA strike, but we got some good news in the official premiere dates for Loki and Echo, as well as the confirmed return of Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio for Deadpool 3. Now let’s talk about this latest rumor, which is connected to the upcoming Avengers movie, and you decide if it’s good news or bad news.

Jeff Loveness reportedly stepped down as the writer for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty!

According to known insider Jeff Sneider, Jeff Loveness, who was previously confirmed to pen the script for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, has stepped down from the project. Sneider highlighted how the ongoing WGA strike has nothing to do with it, as Loveness reportedly abandoned the project before the strike began.

Fantastic Four Reboot Has Found a New Writer

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. The movie was announced alongside its direct sequel Avengers: Secret Wars. Jeff Loveness, who previously worked as the screenwriter on Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was announced as the writer for The Kang Dynasty, while Michael Waldron, who wrote the first season of Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, was hired to pen the script for Secret Wars.

While these two upcoming Avengers movies may seem like Marvel Studios is trying to pull off another Infinity War-Endgame type of cinematic event, there are some huge differences. These upcoming movies were not announced to be shot back-to-back as Infinity War and Endgame were, and these two upcoming movies will be handled by two different teams of writers and directors. Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton was hired to direct The Kang Dynasty, while it remains unknown who will helm Secret Wars. We’re just hoping the Star Wars sequel trilogy situation won’t happen again; you know what we’re talking about.

While losing the screenwriter assumably means the development isn’t going according to plan, some MCU fans found this as good news due to the lukewarm response that Loveness’ latest project, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, received. The movie grossed only $476 million worldwide, which makes it, even with all the Kang hype, the lowest-grossing MCU sequel. Despite that, Quantumania has set up the stage for the next crossover event by introducing the next big bad — Kang the Conqueror.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is set to be released on May 2, 2025.
