‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Season 2 Gets Its Rotten Tomatoes Score — And It’s Looking Great
Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 is already getting a strong response from critics, and the early Rotten Tomatoes score suggests the animated series has managed to keep its momentum going.
The series first arrived on Prime Video in August 2024 and quickly stood out from other recent Batman projects. Instead of following the usual modern-day version of Gotham, Caped Crusader takes viewers back to the 1940s and mixes superhero storytelling with film noir.
The result is a younger Bruce Wayne dealing with crime, corruption and dangerous enemies while still figuring out what kind of Batman he wants to become.
The second season currently sits at 91% on the Tomatometer based on 11 reviews, according to Rotten Tomatoes. That puts the new batch of episodes firmly in positive territory and gives fans another reason to be excited about the return of Bruce Timm’s darker take on the Batman mythos.
Season 2 appears to be pushing that darker approach even further.
One of the strongest early reviews comes from FandomWire’s M.N. Miller, who gave the season a 9/10. Miller described the second season as “exciting and beautifully crafted,” suggesting that the show’s visual style remains one of its biggest strengths.
Collider’s Liam Gaughan was also positive, giving the season a 7/10. Gaughan called Caped Crusader “a fascinating thought experiment” because of how different it feels from many other DC shows. At the same time, the review points out that the show’s unusual format may limit some of the stories it can tell.
Screen Rant’s Felipe Rangel gave Season 2 an 8/10 and praised the way the series continues to reinvent familiar DC characters. According to Rangel, there is “no other superhero movie or show” delivering the same kind of old-school superhero story while making such major changes to well-known characters.
The Spool’s Tim Stevens also highlighted how much more brutal the new season can be. Stevens wrote that Bruce Timm and his team have found a way to separate the series from Batman: The Animated Series, adding that “this season is brutal.”
That comparison is important because Caped Crusader is often viewed as a spiritual successor to Batman: The Animated Series, the landmark show that Timm helped create. While the new series shares some of that show’s DNA, it has developed a much more mature identity through its period setting, serialized story and heavier focus on crime and corruption.
Inverse’s Ryan Britt went even further, calling Caped Crusader one of the “best and most underrated DC TV projects around.”
The strong early reviews are especially notable because Season 2 arrives at a time when DC is building a new era across film and television. Rather than trying to connect directly to the wider DC Universe, Caped Crusader continues to exist in its own stylized world, giving the creators room to reinterpret Batman’s history and supporting characters.
Season 2 premieres on Prime Video on July 31, 2026. If the 91% Rotten Tomatoes score holds as more reviews arrive, Batman: Caped Crusader could be heading into its second season with even stronger critical support than before.
