Secret Invasion,’ currently the latest MCU series on Disney+, debuted in June and aired on the streamer for six episodes. Although the series sounded promising from the start with its grounded political thriller premise and more serious and mature approach, the series turned out to be a disappointment, particularly after the last episode. Don’t get us wrong, the series wasn’t all bad, but as we always like to say, it could’ve been better.

The series killed off two characters who had a close personal relationship with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury. Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, who was a part of the franchise since 2012, and Talos, a Skrull general whom Ben Mendelsohn played since his MCU debut in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel.’ While these deaths could’ve been justified if used for Nick Fury’s motivation and further character development, the sad news is that, ultimately, these fan-favorite characters died for nothing.

The ‘Secret Invasion’ star opens up about leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Since the MCU expanded through additional content on Disney+, Marvel Studios also started releasing ‘Marvel Studios: Assembled,’ an anthology docuseries in which each episode serves as a making-of documentary of every MCU project. ‘The Making of Secret Invasion ’ is now available to watch on the streaming service, and the series star Ben Mendelsohn had something to say about his last MCU project.

“I’m going to miss this one; I’m going to miss it a lot. I’m going to miss the degree to which this is in people’s hearts. I’m going to [miss] people that a lot of the audience don’t see, who make up the real experience and what it is to do these things, people I work with every day. And I’m going to miss being on set with Sam.”

Ben Mendelsohn is known in Hollywood primarily for playing villains, including John Daggett in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and Orson Krennic in ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ He joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2019’s ‘Captain Marvel’ as Talos, a Skrull general who was initially depicted as an antagonist before he was revealed as a good guy. Talos later returned in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ in which he spent the movie impersonating Nick Fury before his true identity was revealed in the movie’s post-credit scene.

Mendelsohn reprised the role of Talos in this year’s ‘Secret Invasion,’ in which the character was ultimately killed off by the series’ main antagonist, Gravik. Talos’ daughter G’iah eventually avenged her father and killed Gravik when she tricked Gravik into giving her the powers of all heroes and villains who fought in the Battle of Earth in ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

All episodes of ‘Secret Invasion’ and ‘Assembled: The Making of Secret Invasion’ are now available on Disney+.
