Marvel Studios’ two latest movies, ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ are now way back in our rearview, but the MCU isn’t planning to slow down any time soon. For the last two weeks, we’ve been following MCU’s newest Disney+ series, ‘Secret Invasion,’ which has four more episodes to air this month.

‘Secret Invasion’ is loosely based on the homonymous comic book storyline of the same name, which is one of the biggest and most ambitious crossovers ever spawned from Marvel Comics.

And although this series is a very loose adaptation, which focuses mainly on Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and doesn’t feature any regular MCU superheroes, the series has gathered positive reviews so far thanks to its seriousness and more realistic approach. However, the fact that AI made the opening title sequence was a subject of criticism among fans and visual artists.

Apart from Samuel L. Jackson, ‘Secret Invasion’ brought back several known MCU characters, including Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill, who the fans hadn’t seen since ‘Avengers: Endgame’ when she was present at Tony Stark’s funeral.

Smulders appeared later in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home,’ but she played the Skrull Soren disguised as Hill. Although many fans were excited about her return to ‘Secret Invasion,’ the first episode surprised them in an unpleasant way when the series’ main villain, the Skrull called Gravik, shot and killed her.

Cobie Smulders Opens up About Maria Hill’s Fate in ‘Secret Invasion’

Cobie Smulders isn’t done with Maria Hill, at least not in animation!

Maria Hill’s death in the first episode of ‘Secret Invasion’ was like a punch in the gut for some MCU fans. Even though some fans immediately started their theories of how this dead Maria was probably a Skrull while the real Maria was still alive, Smulders confirmed that Maria was indeed dead. On the other hand, even if she were going to return, she wouldn’t be able to say it at this moment.

While Smulders closed the chapter on Maria Hill in live-action MCU (maybe), she’s still going to return to voice the character in the second season of Disney Channel’s animated series ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.’ The animated Maria Hill appeared as a guest character in the first season earlier this year, and Smulders confirmed that she’s currently recording her lines for the upcoming second season. Smulders also revealed that she’s always ready to reprise the role in live-action if Marvel Studios calls her to do it.

I’m still working on ‘Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur’ animated show. I literally recorded some episodes today. So I have no idea how or when she’s going to come back around to me, but I’m always welcoming the call.”

The Hollywood Reporter recently reported that Smulders is set to reprise the role in the upcoming MCU movie ‘The Marvels,’ in which Samuel L. Jackson also reprises the role of Nick Fury, but Smulders said she doesn’t know anything about that. Then again, she isn’t allowed to reveal it even if she’s really going to return. And let’s not forget that the second season of ‘What If…?’ is also ahead of us, which opens more options for Smulders to reprise one of her most known roles, at least in animation.

The first two episodes of ‘Secret Invasion’ are now streaming on Disney+. The third episode drops on the streamer in two days!

Do you think we’re going to see Cobie Smulders as the live-action Maria Hill again? Or is the character’s animated version all that’s left for her to do? Let us know in the comments.
