The Daredevil series starring Charlie Cox that aired on Netflix for three seasons is deemed one of the best superhero series ever created. After the series was canceled due to Netflix losing the Marvel content rights, the fans started a huge social media campaign for Disney to save the series. Four years after the original series ended, Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022 that a new Daredevil series will be produced for Disney+, and what’s even better, Charlie Cox will reprise the role of the title hero. Daredevil: Born Again is currently in production, so now we’re going to look at the locations where this anticipated MCU series is being filmed.

The filming of Daredevil: Born Again started in the first week of March this year under the working title Out the Kitchen, and it’s expected to last until November (the series will consist of 18 episodes, which explains such a long production period). The series is being filmed across various locations in the state of New York and New York City, which was always expected because of the original series’ place of action. So far, filming took place in Yonkers, Harlem, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New York County Courthouse, which was also expected because a Daredevil series is also partially a legal drama.

The MCU projects are known for filming all over the world, but most of the scenes are usually filmed in a studio, using a green screen or a new LED immersive soundstage called The Volume, which has been used on some projects in Phase 4. However, the Daredevil series is known to be very grounded and realistic. It takes place in only one city, where it’s also being filmed, and it does not need CGI, only stunt doubles that provide the needed action in front of the camera. In the next few paragraphs, we’ll look at every location in the state of New York or New York City where the series was filmed during these first few weeks.

Where has Daredevil: Born Again been filmed so far?

Yonkers, New York

The production of Daredevil: Born Again began on March 6, 2023, in New York. Two days later, on March 8, News12 reported that the production crew has been spotted in Yonkers, the largest city in Westchester County, New York. Nothing specific was seen on the set apart from the equipment and used cranes. The report has revealed that the crew has been filming outside of the city’s mayor’s office for three days, until March 10, before the production moved to the next location.

Harlem

After filming in Yonkers, the production crew moved to the neighborhood of Harlem in Upper Manhattan. The locals have spotted notifications about the filming taking place there on March 13. Some fans believe Harlem will be used as a stand-in for Hell’s Kitchen, a neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan where Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, was born and raised. On the other hand, some other fans hope this could mean a potential appearance of Luke Cage. This Harlem-based superhero also had his own series on Netflix, but it remains unknown if he will ever return to the MCU after the series on Netflix has ended. The production crew will work in Harlem on March 22 as well, according to one Twitter user.

Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Williamsburg is a neighborhood of Brooklyn, which is very important for the development of the Daredevil series. All three seasons of Netflix’s Daredevil were filmed there. Williamsburg was used as a stand-in for Hell’s Kitchen, and it’s been a great choice for a location due to its tall buildings and skyscrapers where Daredevil usually spends his time at night. One Twitter user posted the image of a filming notification, and according to it, a part of, we bet, tons of planned Williamsburg scenes was filmed on March 15.

The New York State Supreme Court Building

Daredevil fans are really looking for those filming notifications around the city, and one of them has also been found near The New York State Supreme Court Building. This location is very popular for legal dramas that are being produced in New York City (Law & Order is probably the best example), and let’s not forget that Daredevil is also a legal drama (but the real one, not a sitcom like She-Hulk). We didn’t forget that Matt Murdock is a lawyer by day and The Man Without Fear at night. We are surely hoping to see a great balance of legal and superhero content in Born Again. It was something that the Netflix series was known for, so let’s hope that Disney+ can continue that tradition.

Manhattan Municipal Building?

We’ve put the question mark on this one for one good reason. On March 15, one Twitter account that gathers images and videos that provide updates on the filming of the series shared a video filmed in front of the Manhattan Municipal Building, claiming that Daredevil: Born Again is being filmed there. However, we didn’t find any proof like the filming notification with the series’ working title, nor have we seen any known faces to be sure that it’s really Daredevil: Born Again. The production crew was also in Williamsburg on March 15, and New York is a really known location where dozens of productions are happening every day, so we’ll take this with a grain of salt since we can’t be sure about this location.

Daredevil: Born Again will be filmed across various locations in the state of New York and New York City. Considering that the filming is supposed to last until mid-November of 2023, we hope we’ll get more info and update this article from time to time.

The Man Without Fear Finally Returns!

Netflix’s Daredevil series was canceled in 2018 after the rights were taken back by Disney. The fans started a large campaign on social media for Disney to revive the series, and although it took four years, we’d say they succeeded. But, before Born Again was announced, Disney wanted to let us know that Charlie Cox wasn’t done with the role.

Cox appeared as Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home in December 2021, and he reprised the role in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Vincent D’Onofrio, who played the crime lord Kingpin in Netflix’s Daredevil, reprised the role in the Hawkeye series. The return of Cox and D’Onofrio in the MCU officially canonized Netflix’s Marvel series as a part of the MCU canon.

Vincent D’Onofrio is also set to reprise the role in Born Again, and The Hollywood Reporter recently dropped a bombshell with a report that Jon Bernthal will reprise the role of Frank Castle, aka The Punisher he played in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil, and for two seasons in his spin-off series. Cox and D’Onofrio are also both set to appear in the upcoming Echo series starring Alaqua Cox. And as for the upcoming MCU crossover events, who knows? We’re very excited to see more of Cox’s adventures as both lawyer and a superhero, and of course, another rematch between him and his archnemesis Kingpin.

Created by Matt Corman and Chris Ord, Daredevil: Born Again stars Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Jon Bernthal. Sandrine Holt will play Vanessa Fisk, replacing Ayelet Zurer, who played the character in the Netflix series. Michael Gandolfini, Margarita Levieva, Nikki M. James, and Michael Gaston joined the series in undisclosed roles.

Consisting of 18 episodes, Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
