Marvel Cinematic Universe expanded massively over the last few years, especially since the end of the Infinity Saga. Numerous superheroes got their own projects and franchise of movies, but one got four movies, and that’s the God of Thunder, Thor. His lore and Asgardian roots made us love the mythological elements of the superhero, where we met many of his allies and foes, but there is one that still didn’t appear in the MCU, and that’s Enchantress. Amora is one of Thor’s oldest and most iconic villains and Loki’s biggest allies, so when can we expect her to join the MCU? Let’s find out.

Enchantress isn’t in the MCU, but it is possible to see her character appearing in the ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ movie. In the comics, Enchantress was one of the villains kidnapped by the alien Beyonder, who transported numerous villains and superheroes to the patchwork planet known as Battleworld. Besides that project, there isn’t any indication Enchantress will soon appear in MCU, especially with Sylvie from the TV show ‘Loki’ being partially inspired by her character.

There are numerous other reasons why Amora might not be in plans for Marvel Studios to adapt her to the big screens, which will be explained further in the article.

Why is there no Enchantress in MCU?

Enchantress is one of Thor’s oldest and most iconic villains, the Asgardian Goddess of astonishing beauty. She was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1964, and since then, has been a “thorn” in heroes’ sides, with her evil deeds and will to stomp everyone in her way.

She was born in Asgard to unknown parents and ran away at a young age to one of the most powerful sorceresses in the Asgardian realm, Karnilla. The old sorceress taught young Amora the basics but dismissed her after lacking discipline. However, that didn’t stop Amora from learning from other powerful wizards and mages, ultimately becoming Enchantress.

Loki and Enchantress are allies in Marvel Comics, at least in most cases.

Of course, Enchantress wanted more, and her hunger to get everything she wanted kickstarted her villainous ways in Marvel Comics. She seduced one of the greatest Asgardian warriors, Skurge the Executioner, who was so infatuated with her beauty (and magic) that he did anything the sorceress wished for.

During that time, Enchantress has a first encounter with Thor, whom she tries to seduce, but ultimately fails. Everything after that is Enchantress allying herself with another powerful wizard, Loki. The God of Mischief and Amora got along famously, but she was actually romantically involved with Thor quite recently in their history, in the middle of the 2000s, during the second volume of ‘Thor’ comic book run.

Nevertheless, Enchantress is an important character for Loki and Thor’s characters, but why isn’t she in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or why hasn’t she been featured in at least one Thor movie? Well, we might have a few answers for that.

First of all, there was another Enchantress featured in the live-action, specifically the DC Extended Universe, where Cara Delevingne played Enchantress, the interdimensional witch possessing a woman named June Moone. She appeared as the villain in the ‘Suicide Squad’ movie from 2016.

This might be a reach, but there are confusion and copyright issues regarding superheroes with the same names, especially in the entertainment industry.

Another issue might be that Marvel Studios missed the chance to introduce Amora to MCU because her powers and personality are similar to Loki, who was and is an important character – both as villain and antihero. Most fans agree that Enchantress had a chance of being introduced in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ movie and Disney+ show ‘Loki.’

However, another version of Enchantress, Sylvie Lushton, was first introduced in Marvel Comics in 2009. She is an Asgardian who Loki gave powers for still unknown reasons. Sylvie took over the mantle of Enchantress and moved from her home to Earth. This version of the character is closely similar to Sylvie from ‘Loki,‘ hence why some people were very confused when this particular character appeared in the first season of the Disney+ show.

Is Sylvie Loki or Enchantress?

In October of 2023, we will have a chance to see the second season released on Disney+, and it’s safe to say that Sylvie was established as another variant of Loki, meaning she is completely different from Sylvie (another version of Enchantress) in the comics.

Sylvie is a variant of Loki in the ‘Loki’ TV show.

The God of Mischief did not create her, but she appeared in the show as the villain/antihero, another variant of Loki from another timeline. It’s confirmed that Marvel Studios wanted to combine Lady Loki and Sylvie Lushton from the comics and create a unique MCU version of the character.

Sylvie is still quite an unknown character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the ending of season one of ‘Loki’ makes us wonder if we will know more about her character in the second season. We will most likely, since she is quite important to Loki’s story.

Sylvie from Marvel Cinematic Universe is a combination of Loki and Sylvie Lushton’s Enchantress, mostly because of her gender, name, and powers she shares with her comic book counterpart and Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.

When can we expect Enchantress in MCU?

Well, Marvel Studios had a chance to introduce Amora/Enchantress in four ‘Thor’ movies but ultimately decided against it. Regardless of that, we might see her appearing or referenced in future MCU projects, like the upcoming second season of ‘Loki,’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ movie.

Amora had a significant role during the ‘Secret Wars’ event in Marvel Comics, where she was acquired by Beyonder and transported to Battleworld to fight heroes from Earth-616 and Earth-1610.

Personally, I cannot see her wildly appearing in the ‘Avengers: Kang the Conqueror’ movie because there is a possibility of her not being introduced in any projects before the massive crossover, but ‘Secret Wars’ is a unique case since it does feature so many notable characters.

She could be a surprise cameo since there is speculation of Sony’s animated ‘Spider-Verse’ characters appearing in the movie, which is a huge deal in itself. Nevertheless, we will wait and see, but knowing that MCU is slowly moving from space to Earth after ‘The Marvels’ movie, with ‘Thunderbolts’ and the fourth ‘Captain America’ movie being the big projects (at least until ‘The Fantastic Four’), the reason for Amora being introduced to MCU is not very likely.

However, we could see Sylvie for ‘Loki’ being “repurposed” as the Enchantress in Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite the fact she is another variation of Loki – until the second season of ‘Loki’ airs, we won’t know.
