With the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn’s time at the Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially ended. Aside from Gunn, the stars Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista have also confirmed their retirement from the franchise, while some other stars could potentially still reprise their roles in future MCU projects or maybe even join DCU, which James Gunn will start in 2025 with his next movie — Superman: Legacy.

It’s known that James Gunn likes to work with more or less the same actors with whom he has good working experience. Many directors have that habit, but it’s even more interesting with Gunn since he’s the director who worked on multiple Marvel and multiple DC projects in his career. That created theories and speculations among the fans that Gunn could potentially bring some MCU actors he worked with to DC Universe.

Bradley Cooper, acclaimed actor, and director, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the voice role of Rocket Raccoon in the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014. Cooper reprised the role in 2017’s Volume 2 and the recently released Volume 3, along with 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, and 2022’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

Will Bradley Cooper eventually join DCU?

At the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 premiere event, when he was asked by Entertainment Tonight about potentially working with Gunn on DCU in the future, Cooper replied: “I go wherever James [Gunn] tells me.” Judging by his answer, Bradley Cooper wouldn’t have anything against joining DCU if Gunn would call him and tell him that he has a perfect role for him.

Cooper also took the opportunity to praise Peacemaker, a spin-off series that Gunn developed after he finished his work on The Suicide Squad, in which John Cena debuted as Peacemaker. Cooper also praised Cena’s performance in the series. Peacemaker is set to return for the second season, although Gunn announced that he wouldn’t start the second season’s production before finishing his Superman: Legacy work. One thing is for sure, James Gunn will offer us a lot of superhero content in the coming years, and maybe we will watch (or hear) Bradley Cooper in some of those upcoming projects.

James Gunn turned in the script for Superman: Legacy last week, and it’s expected that the main actor for the movie will be revealed this summer. Gunn is also writing Creature Commandos, a seven-episode animated series that is set to premiere on Max next year. Apart from Peacemaker Season 2, he’s also working on the spin-off series Waller, with Viola Davis set to reprise the title role.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, written and directed by James Gunn, now plays in theaters worldwide. Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
