Hugh Jackman is making it pretty clear that Wolverine may not be going anywhere anytime soon, even after Marvel’s upcoming Avengers films. In a recent interview with PBS, the Deadpool & Wolverine star was asked about his future as Logan and whether Avengers: Secret Wars could serve as a final goodbye to the character. Jackman didn’t sound like someone planning a farewell.

“I’m 57. I’m doing it till I’m 90. So, you know, I’ll do a little time capsule for them,” he said.

The line quickly turned into a fan talking point online, with many treating it like a playful “no retirement” promise. The “till 90” comment isn’t literal in a strict sense, but more of a joke about how long he could keep returning to the role if Marvel keeps asking him back. It reflects the idea that Jackman has already broken expectations once before by returning as Wolverine years after 2017’s Logan was widely seen as his goodbye.

He also explained that he’s not focused on locking down a strict legacy plan for whoever eventually takes over the role. “I’m not going to say anything to whoever plays him, ‘cause no one said anything to me, which I really am thrilled about,” Jackman said. He added that he came into the role without reading comics at first and learned as he went along.

“Of course, I’ve got my own take, but it must be melding in with me in some way,” he continued. “I hope someone just comes in and does whatever the f** they want and makes it their own.”

Right now, Jackman is expected to continue as Wolverine across Marvel Studios’ next major projects, including Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. While many fans believe those films could set up a passing of the torch, his comments suggest there’s no confirmed endpoint for his version of the character yet.

The “till 90” joke also plays into Jackman’s long history with Wolverine. He first played the character in 2000 and stayed with it for nearly two decades before stepping away in Logan. His return in Deadpool & Wolverine reopened the door in a big way, showing that even “final” superhero exits in modern franchises aren’t always permanent.

Marvel Studios has not confirmed any formal exit plan for Jackman’s Wolverine. With the multiverse still in play and upcoming crossover films bringing together multiple eras of Marvel characters, the door remains wide open for more appearances.

For now, Jackman seems comfortable keeping fans guessing, joking that Logan could stick around far longer than anyone expected.
