Is ‘XO, Kitty’ Ending With a Movie Instead of Season 4? Here Is Where Things Stand

Teen rom coms rarely get the kind of staying power that turns a niche book adaptation into a genuine Netflix mainstay, but ‘XO, Kitty’ has managed exactly that since it first landed on the streamer. What started as a lighter spinoff of the ‘To All the Boys’ universe has grown into one of Netflix’s most dependable young adult hits, carrying real cultural weight with its fanbase season after season.

That track record is part of why the show’s current uncertainty feels so unusual. Netflix has a well-documented pattern of moving quickly on renewals for its biggest teen hits, and for the first time in the show’s run, that pattern appears to have stalled out.

‘XO, Kitty’ Season 3 premiered on April 2, 2026, and immediately proved it still had an audience. The season pulled in 12.9 million views in its opening four days, enough to send it to the top of Netflix’s English-language television chart. By June 30, that number had climbed to 29.3 million views, placing the season at number 16 among Netflix’s most-watched series for the reporting period.

Despite those numbers, Netflix has not yet confirmed what comes next. The streamer has not renewed ‘XO, Kitty’ for a fourth season, which stands out given how quickly the show was renewed after its previous two seasons. Instead, reports indicate the decision now comes down to two very different paths forward.

The first option is a traditional fourth season, giving Kitty and her friends a proper final stretch of episodes to close out her senior year at KISS. The second is a feature length movie that would wrap up the remaining storylines in one final installment rather than a full episodic run.

That second option is not without precedent for creator Jenny Han. Han previously closed out the original ‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’ saga as a trilogy of films, and her Prime Video series ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ is currently following a similar strategy by concluding its story with a movie after three seasons. For a franchise built on Han’s storytelling instincts, a Kitty movie would fit a pattern she has leaned on before.

Story wise, Season 3 also left things in a spot that could work as a natural ending point. The season closed with Kitty and her former rival turned love interest Min Ho reconciling and heading back to the United States so he could meet her father.

Showrunner Valentina Garza has hinted that this arc carries real emotional weight for the show’s future. Speaking to Deadline following the Season 3 release, Garza did not confirm a fourth season but suggested that Lana Condor’s return as Lara Jean helped make the spinoff feel complete. She said it felt exciting for the two worlds to intersect, referring to the overlap between the ‘To All the Boys’ storyline and Min Ho’s world.

On paper, the case for renewal looks strong. A young adult series that debuts at number one and holds onto tens of millions of views months after release is not the kind of show streamers usually let quietly fade out.

Yet the delay suggests Netflix and Paramount Television, which produces the series, may be weighing cost efficiency and franchise longevity as much as raw viewership. A single farewell film could offer a cleaner, lower-commitment way to close the story while still capitalizing on the show’s proven audience.

For now, fans are left waiting the same way they have with past renewal decisions, watching the numbers and reading into every hint from the creative team. Whether Kitty’s story continues at KISS or wraps up on the big screen, one thing is clear: this spinoff has more than earned the chance to go out on its own terms.
