‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ Finally Goes Everywhere as Square Enix Confirms Simultaneous Launch Across All Major Platforms With New Visual
Few franchises carry as much emotional weight for longtime gaming fans as ‘Kingdom Hearts’. The beloved Square Enix and Disney crossover action RPG series has been part of the conversation for over two decades, weaving together beloved Disney worlds with an original mythology that somehow managed to become one of gaming’s most surprisingly complex storylines.
With the long-awaited fourth mainline entry still building anticipation, the question of where players would be able to experience it has been one of the biggest talking points in the community.
The game follows protagonist Sora and familiar characters as they journey through the mysterious city of Quadratum, a sprawling and visually distinct setting that marks a dramatic tonal shift for the franchise.
When ‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ was first announced back in 2022, the game was described as part of an entirely new storyline called the Lost Master Arc, with Sora at the center of what Square Enix called an epic new chapter for the series. Since that initial reveal, fans had been left largely in the dark about the game’s scope, platforms, and trajectory.
That silence broke in a major way during the June Nintendo Direct. Square Enix unveiled a new trailer for ‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ during the June 9 Nintendo Direct, delivering fresh gameplay footage that included Sora battling through a modern city setting, massive Heartless encounters, and another extended look at Quadratum.
The showcase made clear that the sequel has moved well beyond early development and into something fans can genuinely start anticipating.
The platform announcement accompanying the new footage was the headline moment for many in the community. Square Enix confirmed that ‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 at launch, making it the first mainline entry in the series to arrive natively on a Nintendo console day one.
The official KINGDOM HEARTS account on X confirmed the full simultaneous rollout, stating the title will launch across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox on PC, Epic Games Store, and Steam all at once. For a franchise that had for years kept Nintendo players reliant on cloud versions of older titles, this represents a meaningful and long-overdue shift.
The Nintendo Direct presentation also revealed a ‘Kingdom Hearts Collection’ bundling the full run of previous entries, from the HD 1.5 and 2.5 ReMIX collections through to ‘Kingdom Hearts III’ with the Re Mind DLC, bringing the entire saga natively to Switch 2 ahead of the new installment’s arrival. The collection arrives on Switch 2 on October 8, with each title available individually or together through the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece bundle.
New footage from the Direct also introduced a scene featuring two hooded figures speaking in the rain, and gave players another look at Strelitzia, a character who appeared in the original reveal trailer.
The trailer on display carried a “development footage, subject to change” watermark, a reminder that the game is still making its way toward a final form, though the sheer volume of gameplay on show suggests meaningful progress. Push Square noted that the footage shown during the Direct displayed a full HUD and button prompts, details that were then removed from the official upload on the series’ YouTube channel.
No release date has been attached to ‘Kingdom Hearts IV’ just yet, but the combination of a sweeping platform announcement, substantial new gameplay, and a fresh new trailer signals that Square Enix is ready to bring one of gaming’s most devoted fanbases back into the fold in a serious way. Whether you’re a Switch 2 owner, a PC player, or a PlayStation loyalist, Sora’s next adventure is coming to you, and the question now is simply when. Are you more excited to revisit the older titles in the collection first, or are you diving straight into everything we know about ‘Kingdom Hearts IV’?
