As you probably already know, the second season of ‘Loki‘ is set to be released on Friday, October 6, 2023! The first season had God of Mischief going places and discovering many mysteries of the universe, and the season finale left us eagerly waiting for what was next. That is why it is a good idea to remind ourselves of everything that happened in the first season and prepare for season 2.

Loki gets arrested by the TVA and then joins them to find his Variant that’s been killing Minutemen

The first season of ‘Loki’ began in 2012 when the Avengers defeated Loki and secured the Tesseract. However, this time, Loki sees the opportunity, steals the Tesseract again, and escapes to the Gobi desert. This was not supposed to happen, and the nexus event was created that changed the timeline. Time Variance Authority (TVA) noticed this irregularity, so they arrived and arrested Loki for the crimes against the Sacred Timeline.

Loki was taken to TVA’s headquarters to face trial for the crimes committed against the Sacred Timeline. Miss Minutes informed him about the Sacred Timeline and the Time Keepers who supposedly created TVA and that timeline. The God of Mischief was found guilty and sentenced to be pruned, but Agent Mobius had other plans for him. He needed Loki’s help to find a Loki Variant that’s been killing Minutemen (TVA’s employees).

When Loki realized that the Variant was hiding from the TVA in apocalypse events across the timeline, tracking the Variant down became simpler. Once Loki found the Variant, he revealed that his goal was to overthrow the Time Keepers and rule over the TVA, and he wanted the Variant to join him. The Variant was not interested in ruling over TVA but in destroying it instead. Things got even more interesting when it was revealed that the Variant is a female version of Loki, Sylvie Laufeydottir.

Loki and Sylvie join forces, Loki meets his Variants, and Sylvie finds a way to defeat the monster in The Void

Sylvie sneaked into TVA, determined to destroy the Time Keepers. Loki followed her there, but they eventually ended up on a moon facing destruction, Lamentis-1. The two of them got to know each other better there, and Loki learned that all Minutemen were actually Variants snatched from their timelines and not created by the TVA. This changed everything. Sylvie and Loki shared a romantic moment that created a Nexus Event so big that TVA easily found them and took them back to the headquarters.

Loki informed Agent Mobius that TVA was lying to him and everybody else, but Mobius initially had a hard time believing that. Everything changed when he swapped Ravenna’s TemPad and discovered that everything Loki said was true. He tried to rescue Loki after that and help him save Sylvie but was pruned in the process.

Loki and Sylvie were brought before the Time Keepers. These two Lokis overpowered their captors and also destroyed the Time Keepers. However, those were merely mindless androids falsely presented as TVA’s creators. After that, no one knew who was behind the creation of TVA. Loki then got pruned and sent to The Void, where he met his other Variants – Kid Loki, Boastful Loki, Aligator Loki, Classic Loki, President Loki, and many others.

Sylvie self-pruned so she could also be sent to The Void and reconnect with Loki. The Void was a place at the end of time, and a monster, Alioth, guarded it. Sylvie was determined that something has to exist even after the end of time, and it is most likely the creator of it all. She found a way to enchant Alioth, and with the help of Loki and Classic Loki, they managed to defeat the monster and open a portal that led toward the creator of TVA.

After defeating Alioth, Sylvie and Loki arrive at The Citadel at the End of Time. Miss Minutes finally reveals to them the name of a person who created and controls all – He Who Remains. They were offered a deal in which He Who Remains would make all their greatest wishes come true, including being together at the same timeline.

He Who Remains knows what happened and what is about to happen. He paved Sylvie’s and Loki’s road and structured all the events that eventually got them to the Citadel. The reason for that was because he wanted them to take his place as the Time Keepers. He was tired and had no ambitions to keep it up any further.

Loki and Sylvie had two choices: to kill He Who Remains and start the Multiversal War again or to take his place and become TVA’s rulers. They had different opinions about what to do next. Sylvie was always driven by the need for revenge and wanted to kill He Who Remains, while Loki considered ruling over TVA a good idea. Loki did not want to fight with Sylvie and just wanted her to be okay, no matter what she decided to do. The two kiss and Sylvie surprisingly sends Loki back to TVA. She then turns to He Who Remains and mortally stabs him.

The Sacred Timeline was broken beyond repair, and many branches formed. Loki tried to warn Mobius about everything that was about to go down and all the He Who Remains’s Variants coming. However, Mobius did not recognize Loki. The second season will have many questions to answer, and we can not wait!
