Marvel Executive Drops Major Release Date Update for Hit ‘Spider-Man’ TV Show
Marvel Studios has confirmed that Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2 is finished and on the way, although fans will have to wait a little longer to learn exactly when it will arrive on Disney+.
The update comes from Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum, who spoke with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley during the Tribeca Film Festival. While discussing Marvel’s upcoming projects, Winderbaum confirmed that work on the second season has already been completed.
According to Winderbaum, Marvel is carefully planning the release schedule because several major projects are arriving around the same time. The studio is preparing for the release of X-Men ’97 season 2, VisionQuest, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Doomsday. Because of that crowded lineup, Marvel wants to make sure the animated Spider-Man series gets enough attention when it returns.
While trying to recall the release plans, Winderbaum said, “It is coming. It’s complete.” He added, “I don’t think we’ve announced it yet, but there’s a lot coming out this year. X-Men ’97 and then VisionQuest. There’s a Spider-Man [Brand New Day] feature, there’s [Avengers:] Doomsday.” He explained that Marvel wants to “give it [Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 2] a good place to live and breathe.”
The executive also shared new details about what viewers can expect from the next season. One of the biggest storylines will continue to focus on Norman Osborn, voiced by Colman Domingo. Winderbaum praised the actor’s performance and suggested that several long-running story threads will begin to pay off in a major way.
Speaking about the upcoming episodes, Winderbaum said, “Colman is so freaking good, and the Norman Osborn plot… The thing that makes [Your] Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man work so well is that the characters really simmer for a very long time when they start to pay off, and some of the payoffs just start hitting really heavy in season 2, and it’s extremely satisfying.”
The animated series has taken a different path from what was originally planned. Early in development, the show was intended to tell the origin story of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Marvel later changed direction and placed the series within the wider MCU multiverse, allowing it to tell its own version of Peter Parker’s story.

Season 2 is expected to introduce several major characters and storylines. One of the biggest developments will be the arrival of Venom. The series is also set to feature Gwen Stacy, also known as Spider-Gwen. This will mark the first time Marvel Studios has used the popular character in one of its own projects.
Marvel is already looking beyond the second season as well. According to previous announcements from the studio, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man season 3 is already in development. Although story details remain secret, Marvel reportedly hopes to release the third season roughly one year after season 2 premieres.
Spider-Man fans have plenty to look forward to outside of animation as well. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker will return to theaters when Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens on July 31. Meanwhile, Sony recently expanded its live-action Spider-Man television universe with Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage, which premiered on Prime Video on May 25.
