Michael Giacchino Confirms ‘Werewolf by Night’ Sequel Talks Are Real

Marvel’s Disney+ Special Presentations have always felt like the corner of the MCU where the studio is willing to take real creative swings, trading blockbuster spectacle for something stranger and more intimate. A few of those experiments landed with fans quite like the black-and-white monster movie throwback that introduced Jack Russell to the franchise.

That 2022 special turned into a genuine word-of-mouth hit, praised for its gothic visuals, practical effects, and willingness to lean fully into old-school horror rather than typical superhero spectacle. Ever since, fans have wondered whether Marvel would ever revisit that corner of its universe, especially given how little the studio has said publicly about the project’s future.

That silence appears to be breaking. According to ScreenRant, director Michael Giacchino has now confirmed that talks about developing a sequel to ‘Werewolf By Night‘ have indeed taken place, offering the clearest acknowledgment yet that the follow-up fans have been hoping for is at least being discussed internally at Marvel.

That confirmation builds on a string of increasingly promising updates from Giacchino over the past several months. Deadline previously reported that Giacchino would direct his follow-up to ‘Werewolf By Night’, a detail that sparked immediate speculation among fans parsing every word of the outlet’s coverage for signs of an official greenlight.

Giacchino himself has continued to tease the project in public appearances since. He’s floated the idea more than once in recent interviews, at one point mentioning during a Deadline panel that a sequel was actively part of his upcoming plans, even joking about pointing newcomers toward the original special on Disney+ ahead of whatever comes next.

That enthusiasm isn’t new, either. Giacchino has spoken about wanting to expand this side of the MCU for years, previously telling Collider during a Q&A that talks about a follow-up have persisted, though he was careful to note that discussions alone don’t guarantee a greenlight until a studio commits real resources to the project.

The character’s story has continued to grow outside the screen in the meantime. Giacchino has also been developing a ‘Werewolf By Night’ comic titled ‘Blood Moon Rise’, which follows a 1970s version of Jack Russell facing off against Dracula, a separate storyline from any potential live-action sequel but one that speaks to just how invested the director remains in the character’s mythology.

There’s also been persistent speculation tying Giacchino to Marvel’s rumored Midnight Sons project, a potential team-up film that could unite supernatural corners of the MCU like Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Blade, and Man-Thing alongside Werewolf By Night himself. Nothing there has been officially confirmed, but the overlap in tone and characters has fans connecting the dots regardless.

For now, Marvel Studios hasn’t issued any official statement addressing a ‘Werewolf By Night’ sequel directly, leaving Giacchino’s own comments as the most concrete confirmation fans have received to date. Given the original special’s cult following and Giacchino’s clear enthusiasm for returning to it, momentum finally seems to be building in the right direction.

Whether that translates into an actual release date remains to be seen, but for fans who’ve been waiting since 2022, simply hearing the word “talks” feels like real progress.
