Netflix Adds Two Fan-Favorite Cult Superhero Shows Fans Have Been Waiting For
Netflix is bringing back two superhero shows that many fans believe never got the attention they deserved. While Marvel and DC have dominated the superhero television world for years, The Tick has always existed as a strange, funny, and completely different take on the genre. Starting in July, both versions of the series will be available on Netflix, giving viewers a chance to rediscover one of the most unique superhero franchises ever made.
The streaming platform will add both The Tick and The Tick: The Complete Series to its lineup. Although they share the same name and follow the same unusual hero, they are actually two separate adaptations. The Tick: The Complete Series is the 2016 Prime Video version starring Peter Serafinowicz, while The Tick is the 2001 Fox series led by Patrick Warburton.

Both shows are based on the comic book character created by Ben Edlund in 1986. The character started as a simple mascot for New England Comics before becoming a full comic book hero. Over the years, The Tick has become known for turning superhero traditions upside down with his strange personality, colorful costume, and ridiculous sense of humor.

The Tick is a giant man in a blue suit with antennae on his head, and he fights crime with endless confidence despite often having no idea what is happening. One of his most famous lines is his unusual battle cry, “Spoooooon!” His origins change depending on the version, but one thing always stays the same: he is a cheerful and unusual hero who sees the world in his own way.
The 2001 series, starring Patrick Warburton, embraced the character’s comedy and cartoon-like energy. The show played more like a traditional sitcom, with shorter episodes and a focus on silly situations. Warburton’s performance became one of the biggest highlights because he fully captured The Tick’s loud, innocent, and over-the-top personality.
The 2016 Amazon series took a different approach. This version was more focused on modern superhero stories and the idea of “peak TV,” with longer episodes and a more connected storyline. Peter Serafinowicz played a slightly different version of The Tick, while Griffin Newman’s Arthur provided a more emotional and realistic side to the story.
Instead of only making fun of superhero clichés, the newer series also explored the relationship between The Tick and Arthur. The Tick was still optimistic and strange, but Arthur gave the show a stronger emotional center. Many fans enjoyed the new direction, but the series was canceled after two seasons despite support from viewers who hoped another network would save it.
The arrival of both shows on Netflix could give The Tick another chance with a larger audience. With superhero movies and shows still being extremely popular, the timing may be perfect for viewers to discover a franchise that has always taken a very different path.
While Marvel and DC continue to lead the superhero market, The Tick proves that the genre can also be funny, weird, and completely unpredictable. Netflix’s decision to bring both versions together could introduce a new generation of fans to one of the most underrated superhero comedies ever made.
