‘Gilmore Girls’ Is Leaving Netflix This Month — Find Out Where It Goes Next
Fans of coffee, fast conversations, and small-town drama will soon have to say goodbye to Stars Hollow on Netflix. The streaming service has announced that all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls will leave the platform in the United States on June 30.
Netflix shared the news on social media, calling the series much more than just another show. “It’s a show? It’s a lifestyle. It’s a religion,” Netflix wrote while thanking viewers who spent years watching the lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore.
The move marks the end of a long run for the beloved series on Netflix. The show has been available on the platform for around 12 years, introducing the fast-talking mother-daughter story to a whole new generation of viewers who discovered it long after its original television run ended.
Created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, Gilmore Girls originally aired from 2000 to 2007 and became known for its mix of family drama, comedy, romance, and unforgettable small-town characters. The series follows Lorelai Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham, and her daughter Rory Gilmore, played by Alexis Bledel, as they navigate relationships, school, careers, and life in the fictional town of Stars Hollow.
The cast also included Melissa McCarthy as Sookie St. James, Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore, Scott Patterson as Luke Danes, Keiko Agena as Lane Kim, and many other fan-favorite performers.
Over the years, the show became famous for its emotional family moments, clever dialogue, and strong friendships. For many fans, the relationship between Lorelai and Rory remained the heart of the series.
When speaking with Good Morning America Digital during the show’s 20th anniversary in 2020, Keiko Agena reflected on why viewers continued connecting with the series.

“I think it’s because it was based on honesty and love,” Agena said. “It was a show about three generations, and boy, did they bicker. They misunderstood each other, they fought, but they never lost sight of their respect for each other, of their love for each other.”
Even after the original series ended, Gilmore Girls continued to attract fans. Netflix helped bring the show back into the spotlight and later released a revival titled Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016.
The revival brought back Graham, Bledel, and Bishop for a new story set nearly a decade after the original finale. The four-part series followed Lorelai, Rory, and Emily through four episodes representing winter, spring, summer, and fall.
Although the original series is leaving Netflix, fans will not lose access completely. After June 30, viewers in the United States will still be able to stream Gilmore Girls on Hulu and Disney+.
For longtime viewers, the change may feel like the end of an era, but Stars Hollow is not disappearing. The show’s characters, jokes, and emotional moments continue to live on with fans who return to the series whenever they need a little comfort, a little drama, and maybe a giant cup of coffee.
