‘Pride & Prejudice’ Returned to Theaters After 20 Years and Became a Box Office Success Once Again

Jane Austen is one of the best and most beloved (female) authors of all time. Her novels, which blended romance and drama with intelligent social satire, have become timeless classics that are beloved even today.
Among her novels, Pride and Prejudice is a very special one as it has inspired numerous authors and readers all over the world. We’ve had numerous adaptations, and Netflix is working on a new series inspired by the book right now.
In 2005, though, a theatrical adaptation by Joe Wright appeared. The movie, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, was a major hit at the time and it has recently been re-released in theaters.
When released at the time, the movie was received well by everyone. And while it lacked the period authenticity of the famous 1995 TV series, it was a good modern adaptation with some brilliant acting performances, especially by Knightley.
Made with “just” $28 million, the film went on to earn more than $120 million at the time, becoming an incredible hit. That result was not expected at the time, so you can imagine how positively the film was received.
Now, 20 years since the premiere, the actors from the movie have either passed away or have moved on to other projects, but the movie is still in the hearts of the fans, which is why it got a special, limited theatrical re-release earlier last month.
The movie was in the theaters for 11 days and it managed to become a box office hit once again. It peaked at #3 at one point and managed to earn an amazing $6 million at the box office, which is absolutely great for a re-release.
This shows that people like the movie still, but also that such movies, which are becoming rare these days, can still attract audiences to theaters.
