Out of all upcoming MCU projects, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ is currently the most worrying and has the most difficult development. The fourth movie in the franchise was stuck in production hell following bad test screenings with some reports stating that the action wasn’t as satisfying as in the first three movies in the franchise.

Then the news went out that Matthew Orton was hired as a writer and that the reshoots will be more extensive in nature, scheduled for mid-2024 with rumors of Serpent Society being removed from the movie in its entirety. As a reminder, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ was supposed to come out in 2024, the movie even switched release dates with ‘Deadpool 3’ at one point but due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and extensive reshoots and rewrites the movie was postponed a whole year.

Now we’ve finally gotten some good news for a change, in recent days photos of merch implied that the Hulk will be featured in the movie, something that Mark Ruffalo confirmed in his interview during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

I mean, this isn’t exactly a surprise but it’s good to have a confirmation. It would make little sense to introduce Red Hulk without the Hulk. But if you’re wondering whether there is a standalone Hulk movie in development Ruffalo unfortunately burst everyone’s bubbles stating that “that’s not happening.”

Kevin’s like what would you like to do? And he said what would you do If you had a standalone Hulk movie and I sad well I’d like to take him from this raging maniac to kind of this integrated character and he’s like okay we’ll do that over the course of four movies. We’ll never give you a standalone Hulk.

Hulk is however rumored to appear in ‘Avengers 5’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Despite being one of the most popular Marvel Characters, Hulk is the only mainstream popular superhero that doesn’t have his own standalone project in the MCU.

This is due to complicated intellectual and distribution rights in which both Marvel Studios and Universal are involved. Marvel let Universal Pictures make a Hulk movie in 2003, but Universal couldn’t make a sequel, so the character rights went back to Marvel. In 2008, Marvel and Universal teamed up for ‘The Incredible Hulk,’ but Universal kept distribution rights for 15 years. That’s why there wasn’t another Hulk movie at that time. The deal said Universal could distribute any Marvel movie with Hulk as the main character, so Hulk stayed a secondary character in MCU films to avoid giving distribution rights to Universal instead of Disney. The state of these rights is still currently confusing, but at least we know that Banner’s story will unfold in future MCU projects.
