According to MakingStarWars, some rumors are circling around regarding the fate of ‘The Mandalorian.’ Of course, it is unlikely that this series will get canceled, given that ‘The Mandalorian’ has always been the most popular Disney+ Star Wars series and is one of the streaming platform’s biggest draws. But there have been mumblings about the format of the next step in the story of Mando and Grogu.

While ‘The Mandalorian’ has enjoyed three successful seasons as a series, the rumors suggest that the next phase in the adventures of Din Djarin and Grogu would be a feature-length film instead of the series format that fans have been enjoying for years. And this comes as a big surprise, considering that Disney and Lucasfilm have already announced three Star Wars movies that will be coming in the future, and none of them seem to be ‘The Mandalorian.’

This news is a natural reaction to the ongoing Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes. It is possible that, due to this strike, Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau won’t be able to complete at least two more seasons of the series, as there were plans that ‘The Mandalorian’ would wrap up in five seasons.

In response to the strikes, Filoni and Favreau were rumored to have been flirting about turning the final chapter of Mando’s storyline into a movie that should be released after the upcoming Rey movie. Of course, due to the lack of manpower, they would have to spend more time writing the movie if ever the rumors are true that season 4 of ‘The Mandalorian’ will be a film.

There is no confirmation from Disney or Lucasfilm in this regard. But we know that Favreau has confirmed that he has already completed the story of ‘The Mandalorian’ before anyone has ever started working on season 4. That means that he already knows the story and that the only thing he and his people need to work on is translating this story into either a new season or a movie, depending on which of the two is more feasible.

Thrawn might be Din’s next challenge

With the upcoming release of the ‘Ahsoka,’ rumors have been pointing to the possibility that the next big enemy of the Star Wars galaxy is Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is set to be the one to transition the Empire to the First Order during the near-30-year gap between ‘Return of the Jedi’ and ‘The Force Awakens.’

In that regard, the possibility is that Grand Admiral Thrawn will survive the events of ‘Ahsoka’ and will eventually run into Mando and Grogu, considering that they are now working as independent contractors for the New Republic.

Of course, we know that Filoni and Favreau have been planning a big movie that should conclude the entire Mando-verse storyline involving Din Djarin, Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. So, if that’s true, the fourth season of ‘The Mandalorian’ might be a movie that would allow us to see how Din and Grogu end up getting entangled in the entire mess involving Grand Admiral Thrawn.
