Marvel’s next big theatrical swing has been building unprecedented buzz for months, and the numbers are finally starting to prove it. Tom Holland’s return to the role of Peter Parker has already reshaped conversations around trailer views and marketing records, but the latest milestone comes straight from the box office itself.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ marks the fourth film in Holland’s run as the wall crawler, arriving five years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ closed out his previous trilogy. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film finds Peter Parker anonymously protecting New York City while investigating a mysterious new threat, all while his powers undergo an unexpected and potentially dangerous transformation.

That anticipation has now translated into a genuine box office milestone overseas. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has recorded the best first day presales revenue in South Korea for any comic book movie released this decade, with tickets going on sale across all IMAX screens and premium large format auditoriums in the country.

South Korea holds a special place in the film’s global rollout, since the country is set to receive ‘Brand New Day’ two days ahead of its North American release, giving local audiences one of the earliest looks at the film anywhere in the world. That early release window has only intensified demand, with presales opening across nearly every major premium format the country has to offer, including IMAX, ScreenX, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and MX4D.

The film’s ScreenX release carries particular significance, since it marks the first time the format has ever been shot specifically for the technology rather than converted afterward in post-production. That distinction reportedly fueled explosive demand when tickets for the format first went on sale, with the sole Korean theater supporting the four-panel ScreenX configuration selling out almost every showtime outside late-night slots within a single day.

This kind of overseas momentum mirrors what the film has already achieved domestically. According to Deadline, ‘Brand New Day’ posted the best first-day ticket presales in the United States in five years, surpassing the pace set by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ back in 2021, which had generated an estimated 78 million dollars in presales at a comparable point in its own rollout.

Much of that momentum has been fueled by an aggressive and record-breaking marketing campaign leading up to the release. The film’s first trailer became the most viewed promotional video in history, surpassing 1.1 billion views within four days of release, while a second trailer released in June added nearly 600 million more views in its opening week alone.

Can Spider-Man: Brand New Day beat No Way Home at the box office?

South Korea’s box office history with the franchise only adds context to why expectations are running so high. The previous trilogy amassed more than 22 million combined admissions across its three installments in the country, with ‘No Way Home’ alone drawing over seven and a half million moviegoers during its original run.

With presales already breaking records on both sides of the Pacific well ahead of release, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is shaping up to be one of the defining theatrical events of the summer. Whether that early enthusiasm translates into an equally record-setting opening weekend remains to be seen, but the early signs suggest Marvel may have found its biggest cultural moment since the Infinity Saga.
