‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set to Crush Another Box Office Record as Biggest Monday of All Time Is in Danger

Superhero fatigue was supposed to be the story of 2026, but ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ had other plans. Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as Peter Parker has spent the past several days rewriting the record books, and industry watchers say the celebration isn’t over yet.

The film opened to a jaw-dropping $355 million domestically over its first three days, landing just shy of ‘Avengers: Endgame”s long-standing $357.1 million debut. That gap turned out to be temporary, as final actuals reported Monday bumped the tally to $360 million, officially making ‘Brand New Day’ the biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history.

Now, box office trackers are eyeing a different milestone. According to industry analysts tracking Monday’s ticket sales, ‘Brand New Day’ is on pace to obliterate the all-time record for the highest single-day Monday gross, holiday or otherwise, with some projecting a final domestic number north of $45 million.

That record currently belongs to 2018’s ‘Black Panther,’ which pulled in roughly $40.15 million on the Monday of its Presidents’ Day opening weekend, narrowly edging out ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ for the title. Notably, Black Panther’s record-setting Monday benefited from a federal holiday boosting turnout, while ‘Brand New Day’ would be chasing the mark on an ordinary business day, making the feat even more striking if it holds.

The film’s momentum has been building since its release. ‘Brand New Day’ already claimed the record for the biggest domestic opening day with $168 million, topping ‘Endgame”s previous benchmark of $157 million, and it also set a new mark for the largest Thursday preview haul at $72 million.

Sony has plenty of reason to celebrate the numbers beyond the records themselves. Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman kept his focus on audience reaction rather than the box office chase, telling Hollywood Reporter simply, “To be truly honest, it feels fantastic.”

The film’s success comes after a rocky stretch for the superhero genre, with several recent Marvel releases underperforming expectations. ‘Brand New Day’ finds Peter Parker several years removed from ‘No Way Home,’ living in isolation after erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves, a storyline that’s clearly resonated with both critics and general audiences.

Globally, the picture is just as staggering. ‘Brand New Day’ collected $572 million internationally for a worldwide opening of $927 million, the second-biggest global debut ever behind only ‘Endgame.’ The film is expected to cross the billion-dollar mark within days, joining an elite club of MCU titles to do so.

The timing couldn’t be better for Sony and Marvel, either. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and other tentpoles still ahead on the 2026 release calendar, industry analysts are increasingly optimistic that the year could push domestic box office revenue toward the $10 billion mark for the first time since before the pandemic reshaped moviegoing habits.

For now, all eyes remain on today’s final numbers. If ‘Brand New Day’ does land in that $45 million-plus range, it won’t just top Black Panther’s Monday record, it’ll do so while adding yet another line to what’s already shaping up to be one of the most historic openings in film history.
