Hollywood has spent months watching Tom Holland’s return to the Spider-Man suit build into one of the biggest box office stories of the year. Between record-breaking trailer views and unprecedented presale numbers, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has consistently generated the kind of buzz that studios rarely see for anything outside a true franchise event.

That momentum has been building steadily since the film’s marketing rollout began, with Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker four years after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ closed out his previous trilogy. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Parker as he anonymously protects New York City while grappling with a dangerous new evolution in his own powers.

According to Deadline, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now tracking for a domestic opening weekend between 180 million and 190 million dollars. That figure represents the latest projection as the film heads toward its July 31 release, continuing to position it as one of the biggest theatrical events of the summer.

That number comes even as earlier tracking models had floated considerably higher projections in the weeks prior, with some outlets citing figures north of 250 million dollars based on presale momentum alone. Regardless of where the final estimate lands, the film has consistently been described as generating demand levels not seen for a superhero release since ‘No Way Home’ itself, which went on to earn 804.8 million dollars domestically and 1.91 billion dollars worldwide.

Much of that anticipation has been fueled by an extraordinary presale performance. Deadline previously confirmed that ‘Brand New Day’ posted the strongest first day United States presales of any film in five years, a benchmark last set by ‘No Way Home’ itself, which went on to open at 260.1 million dollars domestically and became the second best opening weekend in box office history behind only ‘Avengers: Endgame’.

Fandango separately reported that ‘Brand New Day’ became the platform’s biggest first day preseller of the entire year, surpassing even Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. That comparison carries extra weight given that ‘Brand New Day’ is actually losing access to domestic IMAX screens during its opening weekend, since those premium auditoriums remain committed to ‘The Odyssey’ through mid August.

Generating this level of demand without access to one of the industry’s most lucrative premium formats has been repeatedly cited as one of the more remarkable aspects of the film’s box office story. Industry watchers have pointed to this dynamic as evidence that audience enthusiasm for this specific character and cast is operating independently of the usual format-driven boosts that typically help push opening weekends higher.

The film’s box office trajectory also stands in sharp contrast to some of its genre competitors this year, with reports noting that other superhero releases have faced considerably softer tracking in the lead-up to their own debuts. That gap has fueled ongoing industry conversations about whether so-called superhero fatigue is really about the genre itself, or simply about which specific franchises and characters still resonate with audiences.

How much do you think Spider-Man: Brand New Day will make in its opening weekend?

With just weeks to go before release, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ remains firmly positioned as one of the defining theatrical events of the summer, regardless of exactly where its final opening weekend number lands. Given how consistently the film has outperformed expectations throughout its marketing rollout, there is still plenty of room for that tracking figure to shift again before opening night arrives.
