‘The Boroughs’ Star Denis O’Hare Has a Revenge Plan After Netflix Cancellation
Denis O’Hare is not ready to let The Boroughs disappear quietly. After Netflix canceled the series following its first season, the actor shared his own idea for what he calls “sweet revenge” against the streamer.
In a video posted on his Instagram, O’Hare opened up about his disappointment over the cancellation and encouraged fans and Emmy voters to continue supporting the show. He said he was surprised by how many people connected with the series and told viewers that the best way to show Netflix they made the wrong decision was through awards recognition.
“So, it’s Saturday and I’m just thinking about the fact that Netflix canceled ‘The Boroughs’ and how really bummed I am because it was such a great show,” O’Hare said in the video.
The actor explained that the reaction from viewers had been stronger than he expected. According to O’Hare, people from different age groups reached out to share how much they enjoyed the series.
“I’ve been astounded how many people have come up to me and talked about how much they like the show and not just like, you know, old people but I’m talking about anybody, people who are, you know, in their 30s or 40s with kids,” he said.
The Boroughs was produced by the Duffer Brothers, the creators best known for Stranger Things. The series received positive early reactions after its release and built a loyal audience during its run on Netflix.
While the show was canceled after only one season, O’Hare believes it still deserves recognition. He asked fans to consider voting for the series during Emmy voting and also mentioned several members of the cast who he believes delivered strong performances.
“Everyone seemed to find something to relate to,” O’Hare said before encouraging viewers to support the show.
He named actors including Bill Pullman, Alfre Woodard, Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, and Alice Kremelberg, asking fans to vote for them as well as the series itself.
“You can vote for me if you like. But also like Bill Pullman and Alfre Woodard and Alfie Molina and Geena Davis and Clarke Peters, Seth Numrich, Alice Kremelberg and vote for ‘The Boroughs’ for Best Series and, you know, stick it to Netflix and let them know that they made a mistake,” O’Hare said.
The actor described Emmy support as a way for fans to send a message to Netflix after the cancellation. “I think that would be sweet revenge,” he added.
The Boroughs initially performed well after arriving on Netflix. The series opened with 5.6 million viewers during its first weekend before growing to 9.6 million viewers. However, its numbers later declined, eventually dropping to 3.7 million viewers.

The cancellation comes during a busy year for the Duffer Brothers, who also released another project, the limited series Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
Although Netflix has moved on from The Boroughs, O’Hare’s message shows that the cast still believes in the series and the audience it found. For now, the actor hopes awards attention can keep the show in the spotlight and prove that fans were not ready to say goodbye.
