Here Are the Films That ‘Scary Movie 6’ Will Spoof in the Latest Installment
Fans of horror comedy have a reason to celebrate as the long-running Scary Movie franchise prepares for a major theatrical return. The sixth installment has been officially greenlit by Miramax and is scheduled for release on June 12, marking the first new entry since 2013.
This comeback is especially exciting because it brings the Wayans brothers back to lead the project, reuniting the creative team that turned the franchise into a worldwide hit. Marlon Wayans has hinted at some of the films the new movie might parody, including recent horror hits like Heretic, Longlegs, and Smile, along with classics such as I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Reports also suggest the film will poke fun at the tension in A Quiet Place and the gore in Terrifier 3, giving fans of both slasher and prestige horror something to laugh at. The sequel will see the return of fan-favorite characters Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, played by Anna Faris and Regina Hall.
Many original cast members are also coming back, including Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, and Chris Elliott. Their return is a welcome relief for longtime fans who felt later installments lost the sharp humor of the first two films, which together grossed nearly $900 million worldwide.
Marlon Wayans has spoken openly about why the brothers left the series after the second film. He said the studio offered the same poor deals as before, despite the franchise’s huge success. “We felt disrespected by the business terms,” he explained, referencing the questionable practices of former producer Harvey Weinstein.
Rick Alvarez, who has worked with the Wayans on projects like A Haunted House, is co-writing the screenplay to ensure the humor stays true to the original style. Paramount will handle the theatrical release, positioning the movie as one of the summer’s biggest comedy events.
Outside of Scary Movie 6, the cast has been busy with individual projects. Anna Faris starred in the dark comedy The Estate and continues to host her hit podcast Anna Faris is Unqualified. Marlon Wayans also received praise for his 2024 stand-up special Good Grief, known for its mix of personal stories and energetic comedy.
With horror films like Longlegs and Nope becoming cultural landmarks, the timing is perfect for the Wayans’ signature brand of meta-humor. Fans can expect the new Scary Movie to bring back the irreverent, high-energy comedy that made the franchise a classic while also giving a modern twist for today’s horror fans.
