Robert Pattinson’s career has been full of surprises. After starting as a wizard in Harry Potter and later playing a vampire in Twilight, he shifted to more unconventional roles in films like Good Time and High Life. By 2019, his performance alongside Willem Dafoe in The Lighthouse cemented his reputation as a rising star in independent cinema.

While Pattinson has worked with acclaimed directors like Christopher Nolan and Bong Joon-ho, he has been open about the role that started it all—Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. According to Robert Pattinson: The Unauthorized Biography, the actor didn’t enjoy playing the Hufflepuff hero.

“I hate him. I used to hate everybody like Cedric at my school,” Pattinson admitted, reflecting on the character. He explained that he was never a natural leader and found the idea of being a “head boy” completely foreign.

Pattinson also found the character’s physical description intimidating. “In the book, and also my [character’s] first introduction in the script, it’s like, ‘an absurdly handsome 17-year-old,’ and it kind of puts you off a little bit,” he said. He even joked that trying to live up to Cedric’s image was scarier than facing Lord Voldemort.

Despite his frustrations, Pattinson acknowledges that the role changed his life forever. He told Time Out that his time in the wizarding world feels like a different lifetime and that he wouldn’t mind seeing someone else take on the role now.

Even though he seeks out offbeat and experimental projects, Pattinson has not abandoned big commercial films. He starred in Tenet, leading the global box office in 2020, and played a darker, grittier Bruce Wayne in The Batman two years later.

This year, Pattinson has been in the spotlight again for his lead role in Bong Joon-ho’s sci-fi epic Mickey 17. He plays multiple expendable versions of himself on a colonization mission, sharing the screen with Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. The film has drawn attention for its surreal visuals and dark humor.

Fans are also looking forward to his return as Batman in The Batman Part II, currently in production under director Matt Reeves. Outside of acting, Pattinson remains active in fashion as a face for Dior Homme and is developing new projects through his production deal with Warner Bros.

On the personal side, Pattinson has been enjoying life with his partner, Suki Waterhouse. The couple welcomed their first child in 2024 and have been seen together at high-profile events in London and Los Angeles.

Between sci-fi adventures, superhero sequels, and experimental indie films, Pattinson continues to keep audiences guessing. His willingness to take risks and explore diverse roles has made him one of the most unique and unpredictable actors in Hollywood today.
