A Dead DCU Villain May Be Returning in ‘Superman: Man of Tomorrow,’ and Fans Are Shocked
The DC Universe may have a surprise waiting for fans in Man of Tomorrow. A new behind-the-scenes photo has started speculation that a character from The Suicide Squad could be making a comeback in the upcoming Superman sequel.
The rumor began after Mikaela Hoover, who played Cat Grant in Superman, shared a workout photo on social media with Edi Gathegi, who returns as Mister Terrific, and Flula Borg. Borg appeared in The Suicide Squad as Javelin, a member of Task Force X who died during the team’s dangerous mission in the 2021 film.
Because Borg was spotted with actors connected to Man of Tomorrow, fans quickly started wondering if he could be involved in the next DCU movie. However, neither DC Studios nor director James Gunn has officially confirmed that Borg is returning, so the connection remains only speculation for now.

The situation is also complicated because the DC Universe reboot has changed how previous characters are being used. Some actors from the old DC Extended Universe are returning, but they are not always playing the same characters. Gunn has already shown that performers can move into new roles within the franchise.
A good example is Nathan Fillion, who appeared as T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad before being cast as Guy Gardner, one of the Green Lantern characters in the new DCU. This has opened the door for possibilities like Borg returning in a completely different role rather than coming back as Javelin.
If Flula Borg is actually part of Superman: Man of Tomorrow, there are several ways the movie could handle it. The character could return as a new hero or another figure in the DC Universe. Another option is that Javelin somehow survived the events of The Suicide Squad, although the film would need to explain how that happened.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow will continue the story of David Corenswet’s Superman following the success of his first movie. The sequel will bring Superman together with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor as the two longtime rivals are forced to work together against a much larger threat.
The movie will also introduce Brainiac into the DC Universe, with Lars Eidinger playing the iconic villain. Brainiac’s arrival is expected to raise the stakes for Superman and push the new DCU into a bigger cosmic direction.
Do you think Javelin will return in Superman: Man of Tomorrow?
Several other characters from Superman are also returning. Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific will appear again, while Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Aaron Pierre’s Green Lantern, John Stewart, are also set to join the cast. Pierre previously played the character in the HBO series Lanterns before making his DCU movie debut.
The upcoming sequel is part of DC Studios’ first chapter, titled “Gods and Monsters,” as James Gunn and Peter Safran continue building a connected universe with new versions of classic heroes.
For now, fans will have to wait for official confirmation about Flula Borg’s involvement. The new photo may reveal a hidden detail, or it could simply be a friendly behind-the-scenes moment between members of the DC family.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 9, 2027.
