‘Ahsoka’: Meet Captain Enoch, Wes Chatham’s Character
The newest ‘Star Wars’ series on Disney+ — ‘Ahsoka’ — recently premiered with the first two episodes. The series’ storyline is set after the events of the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ animated series. The Empire has fallen, but its remaining loyalists aren’t ready to give up, which is why Morgan Elsbeth, Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi-turned-mercenary, and his apprentice Shin Hati, are looking for a map that leads to banished Imperial General Thrawn. After the first two episodes, the series still has more characters to introduce. One of them is Wes Chatham’s Captain Enoch. In this article, we’ll talk about him based on what we know so far about the character.
Wes Chatham joined ‘Ahsoka’ to play a character that was initially described as Thrawn’s right-hand man. Later, news reported that Chatham is set to play Captain Enoch, who is an original character made exclusively for the series. Therefore, we don’t know much about him since he hasn’t even debuted yet in the series, but since he’s described as Thrawn’s ally and subordinate, we suspect he’ll have an important role once Thrawn shows up in the series.
John Wesley Chatham, aka Wes Chatham, started his acting career after he left the United States Navy, where he served between 1997 and 2001. He got his first professional role in 2003’s musical comedy ‘The Fighting Temptations.’ Since then, he has starred in many movie and TV projects, but his most known roles are definitely Castor in both parts of ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,’ and Amos Burton in all six seasons of ‘The Expanse.’ The role of Captain Enoch, although supporting, might also help his career a lot since ‘The Expanse’ finished its run.
What role will Wes Chatham play in ‘Ahsoka’?
At this point, we don’t know much we don’t know anything about Wes Chatham’s character in ‘Ahsoka’ apart from the fact that he’s called Captain Enoch and that he serves as Grand Admiral Thrawn’s right-hand man. Thankfully, we know a lot more about his boss, so using that info, we can presume what kind of character Enoch will be.
Grand Admiral Thrawn first appeared as a character in 1991-1993’s ‘Thrawn’ novel trilogy, in which Thrawn is depicted as a master tactician who plans to destroy the New Republic. However, these novels aren’t canon to the franchise, and therefore, Thrawn’s first canon appearance was in the first episode of the third season of the ‘Star Wars Rebels’ animated series, in which Lars Mikkelsen voiced the character.
The ‘Ahsoka’ is known for bringing many ‘Star Wars Rebels’ characters to live-action, and Thrawn will also be one of those characters. While the viewers of ‘Star Wars Rebels’ will catch a lot of references and throwbacks in ‘Ahsoka,’ the viewers who don’t have that prior knowledge will probably look at Thrawn as a mystery character and the ultimate villain of the series, which also works since ‘Ahsoka’ is done good enough that you can equally enjoy the series regardless if you watched ‘Rebels’ or not.
Some of the returning characters from ‘Rebels’ in ‘Ahsoka’ are Sabine Wren, General Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, and the droid known as Chopper. Of course, ‘Ahsoka’ will also feature many brand-new characters, including Captain Enoch. Although we don’t know much about him, considering he’s captain, we presume he isn’t some dumb main villain’s henchman but a formidable supporting villain. We’d be happy to see if he’s to Thrawn what Shin Hati is to Baylan Skoll.
What the ‘Ahsoka’ series is about?
The events of the ‘Ahsoka’ series are set after the events of ‘Star Wars Rebels’ and ‘Episode VI — Return of the Jedi.’ It’s the early years of the New Republic, and the remaining Empire loyalists are looking for a way to bring the Empire back to its former glory. Their best shot is to find a banished General Admiral Thrawn, whose location is currently unknown.
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE ‘AHSOKA’ SERIES!
From what we’ve seen in the first two episodes, Ahsoka seeks the map that leads to Thrawn, and after finding it, she seeks help from Sabine Wren to unlock it. However, Shin Hati steals the map from Wren and brings it to her master, Baylan Skoll, a former Jedi turned mercenary in search of power, and Morgan Elsbeth, one of the last remaining Nightsisters of Dathomir who allied with Thrawn.
After stealing the map and unlocking it, the villains are on their way to find Thrawn, unaware that General Hera Syndulla put a tracking chip on their ship to ensure that Ahsoka and Sabine can follow them. The second episode concluded with Sabine putting on her Mandalorian armor and Ahsoka calling her the Jedi Padawan again after many years.
There are still six episodes of ‘Ahsoka’ to go, and as the series’ storyline develops and we find out more about Captain Enoch, we’ll update this article with more valuable information. Until then, the first two episodes of Ahsoka are now streaming on Disney+.
