‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Sequel Might Take Us to a New Playable City, Says Mike Pondsmith

It looks like we might finally be leaving Night City in the next Cyberpunk game. At the Digital Dragons event in Poland, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the Cyberpunk universe, shared some interesting news. He said that the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 will take place in “another city.

The next game, known for now as “Project Orion,” is still a mystery. But Pondsmith’s comment gives fans something new to think about. While talking with Michal Manka (formerly from TVGRY, now with Find Your Next Game by GameStar), Pondsmith said, “We’ll be visiting another city.” He didn’t say the name of the city or give more details. It even sounded like something he wasn’t supposed to say yet.

Fans have been guessing for a while that the next game could be set in a version of Chicago. In Cyberpunk 2077, there are posters that say things like, “Travel from Chicago to Night City in under three hours, coming in 2080.” Pondsmith also once described the new setting as “Chicago gone wrong,” which might support this idea.

Right now, the game is still in early development. It doesn’t have a release date, and CD Projekt RED is keeping details quiet. But that won’t stop fans from guessing what’s coming next. With Pondsmith’s comment and some clues in Cyberpunk 2077, it’s possible that the next chapter in the story will take place far away from Night City.
