DC’s ‘Blue Beetle’ Apparently Has Two Post-Credit Scenes
It’s been less than two months since DC’s latest theatrical flick ‘The Flash’ has been released. Even though the movie was promising a lot, it ultimately became one of the worst box-office bombs the superhero genre has ever seen. With only $268.4 million grossed against a reported budget of $200-220 million. Also, while some fans loved the movie, it received mainly mixed reviews that criticized visual effects and the third act.
Still, after this result, it’s safe to say that the sequel, for which the script was reportedly already finished, won’t happen, and DC Studios can only wait for the official start of James Gunn’s DCU, hoping that it could bring them out of this series of failures. But before DCU kicks off, the dying franchise called DC Extended Universe has two more movies left to be released, and while no one believes they’ll pull off some decent commercial results, there’s still hope that we could get potentially good movies.
The next DC movie has two post-credit scenes, but where could they lead?
DC’s next movie, ‘Blue Beetle’ is set to be released in less than two weeks, and from what we’ve seen in the trailer, we could expect a family superhero movie full of heart, something that the original ‘Shazam’ was back in 2019. ‘Cobra Kai’ star Xolo Maridueña is starring in the titular role, playing the first Latino superhero to lead his own movie. The first reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, but to be honest, we’ve heard the same about ‘The Flash’ before it was released, so we’ll rather wait to see it for ourselves.
What’s important to know for now is that the movie apparently has two post-credit scenes, at least according to Josh Herrera, who recently attended the movie’s advanced screening. Having post-credit scenes isn’t something unusual for superhero movies, but the situation with Blue Beetle is pretty interesting because it’s the second-to-last movie set in the DC Extended Universe, and who knows where could those post-credit scenes potentially lead.
The movie’s director Angel Manuel Soto previously revealed how there are plans to develop a whole ‘Blue Beetle’ trilogy, while James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, announced that Blue Beetle is the first official superhero of his DCU, even though the canon officially starts with ‘Superman: Legacy’ in 2025. That would mean that there are plans for Maridueña to reprise the role in the future.
Still, the commercial result will certainly navigate those plans, and in terms of commercial results, we wouldn’t be wrong to say that ‘Blue Beetle’ is being released at the worst possible time, not only because of the whole situation with DCEU and DCU, but also because the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike is preventing the actors from doing any promotional work, interviews, or attending red carpet events. It looks like all the possible odds are against this movie.
Previous DCEU movie ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ and ‘The Flash’ also had post-credit scenes. The one in ‘The Flash’ can be resolved this year in ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ so before the DCEU concludes. However, the post-credit scene in ‘Fury of the Gods’ theoretically could lead to something new for Shazam in Gunn’s DCU, but given the movie’s poor commercial performance, it wouldn’t surprise us if we don’t see Zachary Levi wearing the red suit with white cape anymore.
Directed by Angel Manuel Soto, ‘Blue Beetle’ is premiering on August 18, 2023.
