The Marvel Cinematic Universe always has several projects that the fans can look forward to. Although currently, the closest upcoming projects are ‘Loki’ Season 2 and ‘The Marvels,’ the entire fandom is already talking a lot about ‘Deadpool 3,’ arguably the most anticipated MCU movie at the moment.

The movie’s production is currently on hold due to ongoing strikes, so it’s hard to say if the movie will keep its current release date of May 3, 2024, but still, all the information we got so far hints that ‘Deadpool 3’ will most likely be an ultimate cinematic experience for the superhero fans.

We already know that the original ‘X-Men’ movie franchise started in 2000, developed by 20th Century Fox. In 2019, Disney bought the company, and in 2020 it’s been known as 20th Century Studios. This acquisition reverted rights for X-Men, Deadpool, and Fantastic Four back to Marvel Studios and closed Fox’s X-Men movie series after 20 years of existence.

Although Fox’s franchise was closed with 2019’s ‘Dark Phoenix’ and 2020’s ‘The New Mutants,’ two movies that were negatively received, the fans are looking forward to the return of Deadpool, whose two movies were equally successful in both critical and commercial ways.

Shawn Levy opens up about Fox’s Marvel legacy and its influence on the upcoming ‘Deadpool’ threequel.

‘Deadpool 3’ will serve as a Multiverse movie that will bring Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The main task of the upcoming threequel is to provide a smooth transition from Fox’s X-Men franchise to the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse.

Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine for 17 years in Fox’s franchise, also returns, and we’ve seen behind-the-scenes photos in which Fox’s big crumbled logo was seen on the set. Since Deadpool is known for being aware that he’s a fictional character and his fourth-wall-breaking ability, there’s no doubt that Disney’s acquisition of Fox will be mentioned in some hilarious, Deadpool-ish way.

Shawn Levy, the director of ‘Deadpool 3,’ is aware that Fox’s franchise will need to be addressed in some way in the upcoming movie, and knowing Deadpool, it will certainly be something we’ve never seen in the superhero genre before. Levy recently talked with Total Film magazine about Fox’s legacy in the Marvel movies, and here’s what he said.

“Deadpool and Wolverine are iconic Marvel characters; more specifically, iconic Marvel-of-the-Fox-era characters. We’re not going to pretend: ‘Oh, we snap our fingers, and suddenly that Fox legacy doesn’t exist, and it shaped a lot of what we now know as the MCU.’ Fox also shaped Ryan’s career, Hugh’s career, and my career. So there’s a lot of history there, and there’s a lot of Marvel history at Fox. And certainly, that’s a part of our storytelling.”

Shawn Levy Opens up About Recent ‘Deadpool 3’ Rumors

Levy previously worked with Ryan Reynolds on ‘Free Guy’ and ‘The Adam Project,’ but ‘Deadpool 3’ is surely the biggest job of his career. Apart from Hugh Jackman, ‘Deadpool 3’ will also return most of the principal cast from the previous ‘Deadpool’ movies, except Zazie Beetz and Josh Brolin, who will not return as Domino and Cable. However, Jennifer Garner is also set to reprise the role of Elektra, which she played in 2003’s ‘Daredevil’ and 2005 ‘Elektra.’

‘Deadpool 3’ will be released on May 3, 2024. However, with the production currently on hold, it’s unlikely the movie will be finished in time, so we’re already preparing for possible delays.
