We already saw Ahsoka Tano getting into the World Between Worlds during the events of episode 4 of ‘Ahsoka.’ Then, in episode 5, she stayed there for a while because Anakin Skywalker wanted to complete her training while she was there. She even went through quite a few events in her past while she was in the World Between Worlds, as this was part of her training. But how did Ahsoka even get to the World Between Worlds?

While the World Between Worlds requires someone to go through a specific doorway, Ahsoka Tano may have entered it due to her previous connection to it when she entered it a few times in the past. But it could also be due to the possibility that the World Between Worlds exists between life and death.

At this point, the very nature of the World Between Worlds is still quite puzzling because it was never explained what this realm was and what it could do. The only thing that we know is that it is a creation of the Force, and that means that anything is possible in this world as long as the Force wills it. That said, let’s look at what we know about how Ahsoka entered the World Between Worlds.

There are specific doors to the World Between Worlds

The concept of the World Between Worlds was introduced in season 4 of ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ when Ezra Bridger and the other Spectres discovered that the Empire had been digging something up in the Jedi Temple on Lothal. Ezra eventually opened a secret doorway leading to the World Between Worlds, allowing him to enter different points in time. Of course, using the World Between Worlds, he pulled Ahsoka Tano out of her duel with Darth Vader.

Ezra and Ahsoka got separated when Emperor Palpatine tried to enter the World Between Worlds. Ahsoka ended up exiting a window that led her back to Malachor V. On Malachor V, she found another door that led her to the World Between Worlds again.

In that regard, it is clear that this place can be accessed through specific doors that can be found in select places all over the galaxy. Most of these places were connected to the Jedi, as it is possible that the Jedi built doorways around the World Between Worlds portals to ensure that no one could access them easily. And it is clear that the World Between Worlds is a creation of the Force and is a place that exists well outside of time and space.

Ahsoka’s has a previous connection to the World Between Worlds

As mentioned, the World Between Worlds could be accessed through specific doorways that can be found in different areas throughout the galaxy. Ezra found one on Lothal, while Ahsoka found one on Malachor. We are yet to see anyone entering this place differently. But for some reason, Ahsoka woke up in the World Between Worlds after losing a duel to Baylan Skoll.

At the end of episode 4 of ‘Ahsoka,’ the titular character woke up in this realm that she was already familiar with as she met Anakin there. In episode 5, Anakin completes her training by making her undergo different trials that show her conviction. But it was never explained how she got there or why she was there.

Of course, we know that the World Between Worlds in ‘Ahsoka’ was not just a vision within Ahsoka’s mind. That’s because Jacen Syndulla heard Ahsoka clashing lightsabers with Anakin when he used the Force to try to sense where Ahsoka was. In that regard, whatever happened in the World Between Worlds was real because Jacen sensed it.

The first thing that comes to mind is Ahsoka’s previous connection with the World Between Worlds. We know she entered it when Ezra used a window to pull her into it. After that, she found another portal to the World Between Worlds on Malachor. While we never saw that she did, we can only assume that she went through a personal spiritual journey while she was in the World Between Worlds throughout the Rebellion era.

It is possible that this previous connection and bond with the World Between Worlds made it easier for Ahsoka to enter it regardless of whether she wanted to go there by will. We know that the World Between Worlds is a creation of the Force, and that means that Ahsoka’s connection to the Force and her previous journeys in this world made it possible for her to enter it without necessarily going through a specific doorway. But we still have another theory about the World Between Worlds and how Ahsoka entered it.

The World Between Worlds could be between life and death

We saw Ahsoka losing a duel against Baylan, who struck her down. While the strike wasn’t fatal, she fell over a ledge and into the rough waters of Seatos. Both Baylan and Sabine concluded that Ahsoka died right then and there.

When Ahsoka woke up in the World Between Worlds, the spirit of Anakin told her that he wasn’t expecting to see her there so soon. Before completing Ahsoka’s training, Anakin even gave her two choices: to live or to die.

In that regard, there is a huge possibility that Ahsoka was struggling between life and death at that very moment, and Anakin basically gave her a choice between wanting to live on or wanting to die. And when she chose that she wanted to live, she completed her training and ended up waking up in the real world.

This opens up the possibility that the World Between Worlds isn’t just a realm beyond space and time but also a world between life and death. And there is a previous anecdote that supports this theory.

In the 2021 novel entitled ‘Star Wars: The Secrets of the Sith,’ Emperor Palpatine mentioned that the World Between Worlds said that it was a conduit between life and death. The exact quote is:

“This mystical realm connects all of time and space, creating a conduit between the living and the dead. Those who control this plane would possess mastery over all of existence, but gaining access has proved an unexpected challenge.”

Palpatine wanted to cheat death, so he was looking for a way to enter the World Between Worlds in the events of ‘Rebels.’ This opens up the possibility that he also knew that this realm existed beyond life and death.

So, if this was true, this means that Ahsoka was able to enter the World Between Worlds in ‘Ahsoka’ when she was in a state that was between life and death after Baylan defeated her. As such, it is possible that using a doorway isn’t the only way to enter the World Between Worlds because a Jedi with a previous connection to this realm could also enter it when they are basically in a near-death state. And this was probably how Ahsoka entered it in the ‘Ahsoka’ series.
