Iron Man Did Have Uru Armor in the Comics Heres How Strong It Was

There are a lot of superheroes in the comics that rely primarily on technology, but certainly, the most famous of the bunch is Iron Man, who has no superpowers but still, thanks to his suits, manages to be among the most powerful superheroes in the comics. Tony Star developed an insane number of suits over the years, combining alien technologies and outrageous power sources to create the next cutting-edge suits capable of facing whatever the writers throw his way. At one point, Iron Man had access to Forges of Nidavellir and created one of the most powerful suits ever, the Iron Man Armor Model 37 Bleeding Edge Armor. This armor was made out of Uru, and today, we’re going to analyze exactly how powerful it was.

Iron Man created his Uru armor when he plunged himself into Forges of Nidavellir in ‘Invincible Iron Man’ #506, dubbing the new armor ‘Iron Destroyer.’ It was powered by repulsor technology and contained entirely within Iron Man’s body. The new armor had a plethora of weapons, such as repulsors, uni-beams, pulse bolts, tasers, and energy blades. Despite being hyped as incredibly powerful armor and almost indestructible, it wasn’t featured in that many fights. Ultimately, the Uru component was vetted and removed from the armor, reverting to the standard model.

Now that we’ve given you a short overview of Iron Man’s Uru armor, it’s time to explain it in a bit more detail. If you’re interested in more, stay with us and keep reading!

Why is Iron Man’s Uru armor a big deal in the first place?

Well, for starters, Uru is one of the most powerful metals in the Marvel Universe, it’s highly resistant to damage, and it’s known that the metal becomes stronger the more exposed to magic it is. This is why some of the most powerful Asgardian weapons in existence are created out of Uru, and during the ‘Fear Itself’ storyline, Tony Stark had an armor well coated with Uru technically.

It was Stark who noticed this peculiar thing about Uru, that it “absorbs” magic like a sponge, whereas any other metal would break or lose some of its useful properties.

How did Iron Man create armor out of Uru?

Following Tony Stark’s brain reboot, he decided to reinvent both himself and his business. One of his latest inventions, or rather upgrades, was new Bleeding Edge armor that was basically upgraded Extremis powered by repulsor technology via Stark’s new device, the R.T. node. This was the most potent energy source that Star had on hand at the moment, and he needed that new energy because his new “body” was guzzling an incredible amount of power just to think due to his brain capabilities skyrocketing.

This new armor was contained within Tony Stark to its fullest, and it had amazing neuro-kinetic properties, with most of the tubing, motors, and servos to a large part replaced by artificial muscles and nano-technology that provided self-repair and self-maintenance, as well as modular transformation whenever it was needed, prompted by nothing but Stark’s thoughts. The armor had an amazing ability to mod itself into basically anything that Iron Man needed, from clothes to tools and weapons. But there was a way to make it better.

When Cul Borson, Odin’s brother, and a god fear, was released from his eternal imprisonment by Skadi, Iron Man initially faced Mokk, a Breaker of Faith, and following the ordeal, he realized that this was too much of a challenge for Earth and considering that Cul is Asgardian and this was also Asgard’s problem he turned to Odin in regards to control the situation.

Odin was first planning on simply razing the planet, but he was moved by Stark’s plea and opened the Forges of Nidavellir to him, granting him vast magical resources so Iron Man could craft unimaginable weapons.

While there, Iron Man plunged himself into the Forges of Nidavellir into a pool of melting Uru, and when he resurfaced alive, his Bleeding Edge armor was transformed into Iron Destroyer armor, aka armor created out of Uru. It was called Iron Destroyer because it resembled The Destroyer.

How powerful was Iron Destroyer Uru Armor?

Much of what we know about this Uru armor are features that were present when Star plunged himself into molten Uru; however, due to the metal’s magical properties, we can assume that Iron Destroyer armor was Iron Man’s most powerful up to that point due to having mystical abilities. We know that armor had repulsors, a uni-beam, pulse bolts, tasers, and an energy blade, as well as defensive capabilities such as deflector shields. But despite being incredibly hyped, it wasn’t featured all that much, and its properties weren’t as fully explored as we would have hoped.

We know that the armor received various powerful enchantments for Odin since the more magic you stack on Uru, the more powerful it becomes, but when it comes to some specific special powers and abilities, there’s little to be said.

We can only assume that Iron Man’s Uru armor was godlike in quality.

What happened to Iron Man’s Uru armor?

Following the ordeal, Odin left and took his enhancements of the Uru armor with him. Stark never planned on utilizing the Uru itself that was still within the armor, so he carefully removed it and returned it to the Forges of the Nidavellir. And that was basically it for the Iron Destroyer armor. It was short-lived.

The Bleeding Edge armor itself was also shortlived, as Stark was forced to disassemble it and remove all components of it from his body. Reed assisted Tony with this, and the two turned the components inert and removed any possibility for the armor and the technology behind it to be duplicated.
