James Gunn Reveals the State of Scripts for the Upcoming DCU Projects

In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran presented their own new rebooted universe dubbed DCU and presented a full slate of projects. The last movie released within the DCEU was last year’s ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ which was somewhat of a success when you take into account that nearly all MCU movies released that year failed both when it comes to critics and when it comes to the box office.

In January, Gunn and Safran introduced the initial projects of the DCU slate, revealing the team of writers involved in crafting the overarching story: Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King. They outlined a plan spanning eight to ten years, divided into “chapters,” with potential for further expansion. The first chapter, ‘Gods and Monsters,’ included films like ‘Superman’ (originally titled ‘Superman: Legacy’), ‘The Authority,’ ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,’ and ‘Swamp Thing,’ alongside television series like ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Waller,’ ‘Lanterns,’ ‘Paradise Lost,’ and ‘Booster Gold.’

Recently, James Gunn Confirmed that the script for ‘The Authority’ movie is not yet finished so there was no need to cast the actors to portray the characters. He confirmed that he usually greenlits projects and casts actors only when the script is complete, he aims to maintain quality over everything else.

This prompted fans to ask about the state of other scripts in the DCU, so far we can confirm that the scripts for ‘Superman,’ ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ are finished. Gunn confirmed that some other scripts are finished as well but didn’t elaborate on the projects attached to them. Gunn also confirmed that he didn’t work on those finished scripts, at least not all of them. You can check out the whole conversation in the screenshot below:

The only project that currently has a release date set is ‘Superman’ bound to be released in cinemas on July 11, 2025. We know that Creature Commandos will be released before that but not much is known about the project currently. Gunn also recently confirmed that ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 and ‘Waller’ will be shot back to back.
