Miyako Teases Possible Return as Toph in Live-Action ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ After Netflix Series Finale
Miyako, who plays Toph Beifong, has already filmed her final scenes for the Netflix adaptation of ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender‘, since the show is planned to end after season 3.
The series has been filmed in a way that follows the original animated story, which also concluded in its third season. Even though the story is structured to end there, fans are already wondering if characters like Toph could return in future projects.
In the interview, Miyako talks openly about that idea. She makes it clear that nothing is confirmed, but she is aware of the fan interest in seeing more of Toph after the show ends. She jokes about how difficult it would be to continue playing the character much later in life, saying, “It’s a stretch to ask Netflix and the production team to wait until I’m 90-something years old to play the older version of her.”
She also talks about the possibility of someone else taking over the role if Toph appears again in future stories. She mentions her height and laughs about it, saying they might need to “find another person short enough” to play the character. Her tone is playful, but she is clearly thinking about how the role could evolve beyond her version.
Miyako also reflects on how Toph has already been explored across different versions of the Avatar universe. She references the comics and later stories that show Toph’s life after the original series, including her role as a teacher, her family, and her influence on the next generation. She explains that she likes how those stories expand the character’s world, even if the live-action series itself will not go that far.
She says, “I feel like the comics are a really great insight into what happens after Avatar but before Korra.” This shows that she understands how big the character’s story is beyond the Netflix show.
At the same time, she says she feels Toph’s main storyline is already strong and complete. She points out how the character trains powerful figures, builds her own path, and eventually raises a family. In her view, Toph already has a full arc that works well on its own.

Miyako also talks about the idea of passing the character on to someone else. She says she supports the idea of new actors continuing the role in different forms of the story. She describes this as a “passing of the torch,” and says she appreciates how she was welcomed into the role by others before her.
Even though she is open to future possibilities, she does not confirm any plans to return. The current Netflix adaptation is still focused on completing the original story, and season 3 is expected to wrap up that narrative.
For now, Miyako’s comments suggest that while she is proud of playing Toph, she also sees the character as part of a larger universe that can continue in many ways, even if her own version of the story ends with the final season.
