Opinion: How Many ‘Ahsoka’ Seasons Will There Be & What to Expect?
The ‘Ahsoka’ series has already gotten a lot of fans hooked because of the overall quality and storytelling of the show. It is also clear that something bigger is brewing in the storyline because Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are looking to prevent the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is said to be the heir to the Empire. That means that the storyline still has a lot of things left to show in the future. So, how many seasons will ‘Ahsoka’ have?
‘Ahsoka’ is a limited series and is actually a spin-off of ‘The Mandalorian.’ That means this series will only have one season with eight episodes. However, the story of ‘Ashoka’ will be continued in the Mando-verse movie, which will conclude the New Republic era storyline.
The ‘Ahsoka’ series may be quite engaging, but it won’t have the longest lifespan because it was always meant to be a limited series that will serve as a bridge to the inevitable events of the upcoming Mando-verse film. In that regard, fans should temper their hopes about a future second season. Now, let’s look at what we know about ‘Ahsoka’ and the chances of a second season.
‘Ahsoka’ is a limited series
There have been many different Star Wars content being released on Disney+, and it all started with ‘The Mandalorian.’ In that regard, the popularity of Star Wars on Disney+ allowed the rise of more and more series getting released on this streaming service. And one of the most popular Star Wars shows on Disney+ is the ‘Ahsoka’ series.
‘Ahsoka’ is the first live-action series that stars Ahsoka Tano, who has only served a supporting role in all of the animated appearances she has had. She was first introduced in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars,’ where she played the role of Anakin Skywalker’s Padawan. Then, in ‘Star Wars: Rebels,’ Ahsoka was more of a supporting mentor to both Kanan Jarrus and Ezra Bridger.
Of course, the live-action ‘Ahsoka’ series is also often called season 5 of ‘Rebels’ because it continues the story of the ‘Rebels’ series, especially in relation to the inevitable return of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the search for the missing Ezra Bridger. And Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren are the ones leading this search.
In that regard, fans are now hooked on ‘Ahsoka’ because it tries to close the chapter on some of the unresolved storylines introduced in ‘Rebels.’ It also allows us to see more of Ahsoka and Sabine in a master-and-apprentice relationship, which was likely formed when they tried searching for Ezra at the end of the Rebellion era. And because of how interesting the story is, fans are now wondering whether or not there will be more.
Unfortunately, long ago, it was already decided that ‘Ahsoka’ will only be a limited series. This means that it will only have one season, which will conclude upon the release of the eighth episode of the series.
The fact that ‘Ahsoka’ is only a limited series isn’t surprising to some fans. That’s because the series was meant to be a spin-off to the storyline of ‘The Mandalorian,’ which has already had three seasons. ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and ‘Skeleton Crew’ are two other Mandalorian spin-offs set during the New Republic era of Star Wars.
So, while there is a lot of promise in the ‘Ahsoka’ series, especially when it comes to its future, the thing is that it was always meant to be a spin-off series that is going to set the cogs in motion for something bigger. And that is where we discuss our next topic.
The story will conclude in the Mando-verse movie
During the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event, it was announced that Lucasfilm had planned three separate Star Wars movies set in entirely different timelines. The first is set during the Dawn of the Jedi. Meanwhile, the second will follow Rey’s New Jedi Order years after the events of the sequel trilogy. And the third will take place during the New Republic era.
‘The Mandalorian,’ ‘The Book of Boba Fett,’ ‘Ahsoka,’ and ‘Skeleton Crew’ all take place during the New Republic era. ‘Ahsoka,’ of course, likely takes place after the events of ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ and during the events of season 3 of ‘The Mandalorian’ or even after it. Whatever the case, they all occur during the same timeline.
These shows will all have the same concluding story, which will be the Avengers-level film that Dave Filoni will helm. This film is the aforementioned Star Wars movie that will take place during the New Republic era. This movie will be the one that will conclude the storylines of all of the shows that take place during this era of the Star Wars galaxy.
That means that the storyline of ‘Ahsoka’ was always meant to set up some of the events that will be tackled in the movie that fans affectionately call the Mando-verse movie. So, while it is expected that the ‘Ahsoka’ series will not have a definite conclusion, the story will conclude in the Mando-verse movie, which will supposedly talk about how the First Order rose from the ashes of the Imperial remnants.
This opens up the possibility of the Mando-verse characters teaming up against a very big threat, which will likely be Grand Admiral Thrawn. We know that the ‘Ahsoka’ series will allow us to see Thrawn’s inevitable return to the Star Wars galaxy after an exile that lasted ten years. And that means that he might be the threat that the Mando-verse characters will team up against in what is expected to be an Avengers-level movie of pure awesomeness.
